Finally finished one for the year – stuck the fork in Sunday night in time for Tuesday’s local IPMS Spitfire kit night. Hasegawa 1/72 Mk.IXc kit. Moskit exhausts, Eduard pre-coloured photo-etched WWII RAF harnesses, Cooper Details cockpit, Falcon sliding canopy and someone’s resin wheels. Scratchbuilt new main gear wells, cannon stub covers, removed all wing gun blisters and ejection ports, and drooped the tailplanes. Loads of fun masking and painting the rudder stripes – downhill after that as pretty much all else was black! Decals from CMR kit courtesy of a friend, which performed flawlessly and even were still opaque over the black! Weathering was oil wash over non-black parts and light exhaust staining. Very hard to photograph a glossy black paint finish. The blue of the roundels actually appears far mor insipid than it is - correct blue in real life and quite a bit darker. Nothing worse than pale blue Star of Davids! IAF Black Spit based at Ramat David 1955. Aircraft is still flying in Israel today although visually quite a few differences now. Happy 60 years to Israel and 101 Squadron.

Nice work, that scheme gives the Spitfire a rather sinister appearance.

That's a very nice model indeed, the finish on it looks great. The black and red look great on the Spitfire like that, it looks like a postwar racer rather than a service aircraft.

Really nice work Craig. All black finishes are always a bugger to do and you've done a great job.

hi there, my name is Brian I was wanting some plans or 3 view drawings of the FU 24 Fletcher made by PAC at Hamilton airport. I have been working there since 1973 on and off building the Fletcher, CT4, Cresco and the latest 750XL. Have always wanted to model a radio controlled Fletcher, so if anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it very much. I have searched all over the Web for 3 view drawings or plans without any luck at all. Thanks.

Hi Brian
Commendable work on the Spitfire. Black is a hard color to work with as has been said, but the model looks very sharp indeed.
