Not exactly unrestored, it came to us in a different scheme, light grey with green crosses, etc.
Smashing photos though, thanks for posting them.

It wears its original paint scheme after the white "surrender" scheme was removed, as per flyernzls extremely interesting article.

I was going to put these in my "stash" thread but seeing as the subject has been raised I'll put them here. Taken Feb 58 I would imagine that while it was in this condition numerous bits would have been souvinered!

I didn't see in Peter's article about the white paint being removed again. Where's that bit?
Only it seems to be in the white markings in the photo labelled 'Discovered at Kara' before being taken to Piva.

It's all there kiddies. From "Hobsonville 1945-46: Although Air Department directed that the aircraft be painted up in standard RNZAF colours with the serial NZ6000, and a report dated December 1945 states that this had been done, no evidence to support this action has been discovered. Instead, it is thought that the white paint was removed to reveal the green underneath, complete with tail markings." The hangar shots from Shorty were taken when the aircraft was stored in the No.8 hangar at Ardmore after the 1957 Easter Show and prior to being taken to Ohakea for a rough-and-ready restoration for the March 1958 RNZAF 21st anniversary air show.

Where is the best place to find the total history to NZ6000? Who flew it, if anyone? How did it get to NZ (flown or consigned?) I always admired it during visits to the AWMM; the Spitfire too!

Bump! It's all there kiddies. From "Hobsonville 1945-46: Although Air Department directed that the aircraft be painted up in standard RNZAF colours with the serial NZ6000, and a report dated December 1945 states that this had been done, no evidence to support this action has been discovered. The Air Force Museum of New Zealand shared a photo on Facebook in 2015 of the Zero wearing RNZAF roundels and serial over (presumably) its original green and grey camo: www.facebook.com/AirForceMuseumofNewZealand/photos/a.89637586278/10153274498966279?type=3&sfns=moI was pleasantly surprised to see this as I didn’t think she had ever been painted with our roundels etc. Googling hasn’t found any other photos and I have asked the Museum on Facebook if there are more. I think it would make a cool model, hence my looking for photos.

Those roundels were likely painted on by trainees at No. 1 Technical Training School where Aircraft Finishers learned to paint aeroplanes. It was after all an instructional airframe with the school.
