Just a reminder that the Black Sands Fly - In will be held on 1st and 2nd November this year at Raglan. Work is under way to organise another great weekend. Here is the flyer - I have a pdf available, if you want to circulate them around your patch, send me a pm with your e-mail address and I send it to you. It would be great to see plenty of Forum people there - for the photog's its a chance to see some unusal light aircraft from all over the country in beautiful seaside surroundings. There is also stuff to keep non - aviator family members happey whilst you watch aeroplanes! Fingers crossed a certain new ZK-CKE may make it there too...

An important point has just been brought to my attention. If booking accomodation at the Raglan Holiday park, make sure you let them know it is for the fly - in. The park are holding all the cabins etc for us, If you dont say it is for the fly - in , they won't have space available.

I have a 172 booked to fly from Whenuapai to Raglan (and back) on Sunday 2nd - weather permitting. Room for a couple of passengers, if anyone from the Auckland area is keen on going down for the one day. Could go via Ardmore if necessary.
PM me if you are interested.

Any updates on whether the aforementioned certain new ZK-CKE will make it? Sounds like it'll be a good weekend so with that in mind I've just booked the CT/4 for Sunday 2nd. Looking forward to catching up with other forumites down there and taking lots of average photos Cheers, Stu.

To be honest, CKE is looking unlikely. I'm still waiting on exhaust components to finish the structure off, then get the aircraft moved to the airport for assembly and certification, plus a pile of paperwork to write up and at the same time organise the fly in and take part in the SAA web page upgrade.... It'll be good to see everyone at Raglan though, should be an excellent weekend.

Hi Bruce,
Did you realise the poster above says the event is "Entry $10.00 Per Person (includes landing fee)" yet on the SAA site it says "Entry $10.00 per person (+ $5.00 per aircraft landing fee)"
Which one is right?
Also for someone like me who's not flying and just coming along by car for a gawk, what does it cost? $10.00 for the weekend or per day?
Dave

Its $10.00 per person plus landing fee if flying. The image posted is an early draft. It is a fixed price whether staying for 1 day or 2 (i.e $10 weekend). Kids under 13 are free if accompanied. This gets you into the hospitality area and covers the cost of hiring overnight security guards, comms caravan, printing etc. Food at the BBQ is on top of that but will be very reasonably priced. (we will probably stop charging for entry late Sunday morning as we will start packing up straight after lunch - we have to vacate as another group is booked in straight after us)

Sadly I suspect your plans and mine might be scuppered this weekend. Saturday afternoon looks a write off - Sunday could be a great

I've been following the Metvuw model for the last week and that weather pattern has been "moved forward" as the data comes in. I would hope it comes early, but of course there is always the risk. Sunday looks OK as does Saturday morning and Friday so at this stage it will still go ahead - we just wont do as many sausages on the BBQ!

It looks all right in Rags at the moment www.raglanweather.co.nz/But everyone seems to be forecasting rain for Saturday and a big storm for Sunday for the whole Waikato.

whether the weather be wet, or whether the weather be hot, the weather is weather, whatever the weather, whether we like it or not.... Still on, depending on the met source, Sunday still mightnt be too bad. Advice is to come in early (Fri night - Sat am) or Sunday. Use common sense though, we dont want anyone flying into hills in cloud etc. if you can make it cool, if not, no worries.... (will be taking DVDs to show to the hardy if the weather packs in!)

The weather has been very nice here today and still is, perhaps the storm will fizzle out.

I'm confused ... the forecast for Sunday is poo and yet the rain forecast on both Metservice and Metvuw shows it clearing. Maybe I'm missing something. Guess I look out the window on Sunday and make a decision as to whether I fly in or not. Fingers crossed.

Thanks to all involved for a great day, albeit a brief visit on my behalf. Nice and varied turnout of aircraft to satisfy my spotter side, sorry no photos from me as in a burst of senility I left the camera at home Great to catch up with some of the forum members and put faces to names .... looking forward to doing the same at Ardmore next month (I'll keep that seat free for you in the CT/4 Dave if all goes to plan). Do I win the prize for the most dramatic departure today? Max performance take-off with all 118hp at full noise and the Robin just clears the fence (and the street lights and the town etc ...). Robin's - not renowned for their sparkling performance at MAUW ;D

Hi Stu - certainly impressive! What caught you there was a sudden windshift as the sea - breeze filled in - very very sudden. Peter and Dave took off immediately ahead in virtually calm conditions, but by the time I got into the comms van from atop the sand dune, you would have had about 6-7 knots tailwind. (hence the calll to change circuit direction immediately afterwards). You then caught the sink that always exists over the estuary on the way out. You did the right thing to keep the nose down and get the airspeed up but we were a little worried ther for a bit. This isnt a criticism by the way, you just had the misfortune to catch an unusual phenomenon that comes with coastal airstrips. As the land heats up during the afternoon the airflow can cahnge extremely rapidly from onshore to offshore - we had to do a circuit change about the same time of afternoon on our first Black Sands. The big windsocks at Raglan do take a while to respond to these big wind shifts too - especially the one on the seaward end. Hope you werent too shaken by the experience. I thought I'd let you know what the bigger picture was so you could understand what had happened. Great to catch up with everyone too by the way!
