A few weeks back we discussed some silver Oxfords at No. 2 Flying Training School at RNZAF Station Woodbourne in 1940 which in a photo posted by Shorty seemed to have coloured tails. Here is another photo taken at Woodbourne around the same time by Joe Ward, and given to me today by his grandson, forum reader James McMillan. As we see, definately coloured tails. I wonder if they were Flight colours - ie blue for B Flight, red for A Flight or something like that?

By the way the one on the left is NZ272 and the middle Oxford is NZ276. I don't know what the serial of the camouflaged one is though.
The airfield looks like it has been ploughed, doesn't it? Must be still when they were settling in after the station was just new.
