I have seen Paul's Auster pile - quite literally there were 3 fuselages stacked in his shed! There was another (I guess the one for sale) in the basement workshop. At that time (approx 4 years ago) he had a place near Mangawai in Northland. He is a Secondary school tech teacher and his school class wer building a Fisher Piper Cub replica (which is what I was visiting to see) He also has a couple of Tiger Moths in his collection of bits too.

Stop tempting me! I owned Auster MK 5 ZK-AUH in the mid 80s and always reject selling her! In fact a well known member on here known as Shorty waved the cash at me and took her away!! If I had the money I'd seriously look at getting another project. AUH was being modified with a 0-320 lycoming in place of her original 0-290 lycoming but not the long nose version that you see a lot of. Once completed the original cowlings would have fitted and she would look stock standard. I think she is still owned here in Christchurch by Jim Massey who was and may still be an engineer at Air New Zealand. Anyone know any more about her??

I too regret having to sell AUH! The guy I was in partnership with had his marriage fall over and had to stump up with half the money (or assets) to his ex. Having just started a small business I couldn't afford to buy him out so we had to sell it. Bit of a blessing in disguise probably as a year or so later I found myself in the same situation and I would have had to also pay up! However by then I had spent the proceeds so my ex got none of the proceeds of the Auster!

I remember having AUH in the back yard for a while. Jim Still has her and she is still under restoration. Jim I understand does a lot of work on the DC3 thats down there in the "mainland"...

How far has he got with her? Last time I saw her she was a bare frame, would have been around '93 I think. Well if I can't have AUH back I'll have to find another one!

So what happened to CYQ back then when it was for sale?
Can anyone confirm the ID of the other Austers in his collection? J1B AYU and J5G BDK are both currently registered to him and/or others.
Or the ID of the Tigers for that matter?

The chap in Warkworth is probably the same one who spent the best part of 15yrs restoring an Auster for Charlie Draper in Darfield. Photo's I saw showed a 99% complete aircraft almost ready for delivery. Then heard it was on it's delivery flight when it had to return to Warkworth with a engineering issue.

While driving in Tauranga yesterday I spotted ZKAWZ - not the aeroplane but a 2017 Haval H2 station wagon. The Auster, the only one in which I have flown, is registered to JD Syndicate of Wellsford. Seeing that vehicle took me quite by surprise. I wondered if AWZ has moved from Wellsford. Having opened this thread, are there any Auster experts keen enough to look at the ownership list to see if any updates are required.

I think they went under the name of Bat Aviation (B** & Tom?) Aviation. It would have been about 1971. The brief flight was from Waharoa to Ryan's strip about a mile up the road. A glider (ZK-GDL?) had landed there and a couple of us took up the offer to get to it by air to help de-rig rather than by road. Someone else drove a car and trailer. Probably my shortest ever flight.

Thinking about this further the name E A "Ted" Bach comes to mind as a BAT Aviation owner of AWZ. Ted was an Auckland Gliding Club member.
