I do not agree it has been deliberately lit. This is, i believe, NZ5367, which according to adf.serials:
"Damaged by anti-aircraft fire during operations on 02 January 1945. Repaired and returned to service. Caught fire on landing approach during initial test flight from Green Island following repairs on 24 February 1945. The pilot managed to land the aircraft but it was destroyed by fire. Pilot Officer Noel MacCready uninjured. Aircraft written off books at Green Island on 24 December 1945."

Think you are right Dave . I have a picture taken just a little earlier in the fire of the Corsair sitting fully intact on its wheels , no bent parts , with flaps down as they would be for landing . The text says the fire occoured whilst returning to Green Island in February 1945 ( which ties in with being written off the books in December .
