I have just been having an email conversation with John Scrimshaw and pointed him to this thread. Here is his reply which clears up some resulting discussion... "Paul Yes, that is a picture of me. I was 18 years old when I first was flying Venoms in Singapore. The question regarding the damaged Venom with Fred damages Ron MacKenzies aircraft was Fred Kinvig. But it was a genuine accident and no fault of Fred's. What happened was Fred put the power on to taxi out and when he braked to turn, the brakes just failed and Fred went straight ahead into the concrete starter cartridge holding construction. That gets Fred Tucker off the hook." Barrie's comment: "Fred smashes Ron Mac's new Venom" John

Only 18 and being let loose on Venoms; what a fantastic experience that must have been? John must have some wonderful memories too of his time in the RNZAF.
Paul, those other images you have posted are terrific too. Hopefully Santa is on his way to your place with a slide scanner right now. ;D

I would like to wish everyone seasons greetings and thank all those who have contributed to this thread. It has become somewhat of an addiction for me I am off on holiday for a couple of weeks so will not be able to post anymore photos. To those who have asked me to supply more information/higher resolution scans, I'm sure that I have either answered your requests or provided the info. If I have missed anyone please remind me and I will catchup next year. To those who have purchased a DVD, thankyou. It has been awesome being contacted by so many who knew Barrie. Regards Paul

Great shots Paul ....really great. Do you think you might get a chance to get those colour slides scanned and posted...most photo shops now have a scanner set up for slides...and it is pretty reasonable.
Heck - I'd even pay for them to be scanned myself...based on how great the other shots are !

As it is looking like pretty average weather for this weekend (I was going back to Omarama if the flying weather was OK) hopefully I can arrange to do some on Saturday. In the meantime we have found a whole lot of negatives (a 100 +) some of which I have just dropped into a photo shop to get prints. They are quite old (50 - 60 years I guess) and may not produce usable prints, but if they workout, I'm sure the Mustang fans will be happy.

A mate sent me this link, I haven't had a chance to investigate/compare as yet. www.hanafins.co.nz/shoebox-unlimited-fill-the-box/My grandfather left a bunch of mainly family slides, which will probably be OK with the 'project and photgraph' method, but I need to check for any aviation ones from his time in PNG in the 60's. I should get around to posting the ones from a 60's Farnborough, but there is a temporary access issue with the hard drive they are on.

Interesting Errol, I may consider that if I cannot tee it up with my mate. Vampires continued... 1962 "12:30 covers on for lunch"

re transparencies conversion, - I found that cleaning with a cotton bud immersed in Isopropyl Alcohol, then having the scan, ensured many of the discolorations on the face of the slide are eradicated. The mix readily available at pharmacies.
