Lovely pictures Hairy! Was NZ3256 a goer at the time? Damon Sorry I have no idea if it was a runner or not. I was thinking that one of these P-40s would be a great subject for a model build with a difference, 'specially for someone who enjoys weathering.

NZ3256 was indeed in taxiing condition at that time. This was John Scullin's 'toy' when he was a 16 year old. He and his mates used to run it up and taxi it, but all this came to an end when his family (including his brother in law Jim Larsen) were away and John decided to taxi it at the Waikato Aero Club pageant. Unfortunately he got out of his depth and luckily an ex-RNZAF pilot ran out of the crowd and shut it down for him. The pilot told him it as seconds away from bursting into flames! So Jim took it off him again and it seems it went into the melting pot with the rest. More photos of it here on John's groups' site www.wings.net.nz/rukuhia.html

Hi Hairy
Wonderful photos there !...just very very neat. What year do you think they would have been taken ?...early 1960s perhaps.
Are there any P-40E or short tailed P-40 shots in amongst your collection.
Off to spend a few hours pouring over these shots.
