The gear is fixed down at the moment. It will be retractable at a later stage, using a hydraulic system.
Approach at the moment is 80 knots until some pitch issues are sorted out, then will be about 75kts, stall is 57kts.
It is very interesting to fly, and when Volker sorts out a few "minor" issues he will have a great little aeroplane.
Cheers.

Ya gunna trade-in the 202?? Add another wing, paint it red, and it'd look quite familiar!!

Nah, I doubt if the Poli would be that good for aerobatic comps! Roll rate is quite slow, but boy can it turn on a dime. Plus the judges would need new glasses.
Even smaller than the S1 Pitts, but ground handling is very good and viz is......not bad.

Seen getting ready for flight at Ardmore today. Unfortunately I could not wait around for the fun, but I did at least grab a photo or two.

It's a really impressive little aircraft, isn't it? Great stuff. It'd be neat to see it having an air battle with Phil Hooker's scaled Focke Wulf 190.
Are there others of these mini-Polikarpovs around the world or is this a one-off? Was it designed in NZ?

This? www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10593967 Home-made plane crashes New 6:50PM Saturday Aug 29, 2009 A home-made aeroplane has crashed in a field south of Auckland with its pilot receiving minor injuries. Firefighters isolated the aeroplane's fuel tanks from the wreckage at the crash site off Ponga Rd, near Opaheke, southeast of Papakura, Fire Service spokesman Jaron Phillips said. Eyewitness reports indicated the pilot ejected from the plane , and emergency services staff had found him and he was OK. There were no details available on how he ejected or if it was from any height. Reports of second crash site near Drury had been investigated and proven false, Mr Phillips said. "The pilot's fine, and [the aeroplane] didn't come down over any buildings. He was pretty lucky." The incident had since been handed over to police and the pilot had now to arrange for his crashed aircraft to be taken away, Mr Phillips said. Counties Manukau police described the aeroplane as a "home-built low wing aircraft" and said the pilot -- the sole occupant -- received minor injuries. - NZPA

He may have been doing some VNE runs for the test flying schedule. Always sad to see someones creation destroyed.

Spoke to an eye witness pilot who said it looked like he was doing some stalls when the power came on resulting in a spin that was not recoverable despite all the pilots efforts; he then deployed his ballistic parachute. Very minor damage to the aircraft and the pilot is OK.

Thanks Simon, it's good to hear that the pilot is OK and the aircraft isn't too badly off. Sounds like that ballistic parachute was well worth installing. Was it Richard flying it? BEst of luck for getting it back into the air soon.

All I can say is great foresight guys! Having a shute has probably saved your life. I have seen VVV flying around Adrmore but for some reason hadn't seen this thread and I didn't know who's it was. Is this the first of type? Hope you can get the issues sorted around what has happened and get her up and flying again.... So little damage, but I still bet it was pretty scary! Cheers Andrew

Very, very relieved to see the photos. All the best to the pilot and designer, and I hope the spinning characteristics don't mean the end of this lovely wee baby's flying career.
