Love that scheme on the SAAF Silver Falcon team PC-7s - have you got any other shots showing that colour scheme up close?
The SA Police have a varied fleet of aircraft. What is the Porter used for?

How many aerobatic teams does one nation need? Great shots BC! Superb! And I agree with Craig, what a fascinating assortment of aircraft! Loving the MD500 ;D

I am lucky... My home base, Rand Airport has 9 aerobatic/formation teams Flying Lions: 5 x Harvards Gabriel Aerobatic Team: 4 x Pitts, 1 x Extra 300, 1 x Zlin 50, 1 x J3 Cub Wesbank Wizard: 3 x Pitts Mazda Zoom Zoom: 2 x Extra 300 Yak Formo Team: 4 x Yak 52's Chipmunk Team: 3 x Chipmunks Albatros Team: 3 x Piaggio P-166S Classique Aviation: 3 x Tiger Moths North West Eagles: 2 x Extra 300's Pretty much every weekend one can see at least one, usually several.. of the teams practising. They dont do aeros over the airfield but always return to Rand in formation and then do the break overhead. As well as all the teams, there are many other aerobatic aircraft based at Rand and sometimes they join in with the returning formations so its not uncommon to see mixed formations of Extras, Zlins, Yaks etc The only team that I can think of which is not based at Rand is the Silver Falcons which are based in the Cape. With respect to the Police PC-6 Porters ... the cops have about 10 of them and they are used on routine patrols when additional loiter time/longer distances are required. In addition, they assist the Airforce during search and rescue operations.

Be nice to see one of our Harvards done in a "different" scheme. Might have to wait til John Chambers gets 1041 flying in her 4 FOTU markings!!

I think you mean John Saunders.
Actually, the Harvards on the NZ warbird scene are in a vast variety of colour schemes including wartime yellow overall, wartime camouflage, postwar silver, red and silver, orange and grey, and USN blue. Almost no two NZ based flying machines are the same apart from a handful of them in the last orange and grey scheme.

Another view of the target tug Harvard ZU-AOZ also taken at Springs on Saturday. I must say that my favourite scheme still remains the SAAF day-glo scheme but it is nice to have some that are painted in different schemes. In the general Johannesburg/Pretoria area there are approx 28 Harvards ... so they are quite a common sight .... but they are still special ;D My favourite idea of "Lifestyle" is a bloke here that everyday flys one of his two Harvards over my house on his way to work 200km away ;D ;D On weekends he flies his L-39 .. or Bell 407... or Caravan II or Yak 52... Indeed he seldom has the chance to fly his Chipmunk ...or Tiger Moth !!!
