Me and my mate Sam went for a bit of muck around from Omarama. No plans except fly in the Canterbury Club Janus. Here are some photos and the GPS trace.... Note our rate of climb when we connected with the wave Photos taken by Sam Cook from 18,000feet 75kts and full brake to stay under 18,000 (I know we are over 18 there) A closer look at East face of Cook

Gliding must be such an amazing experience - especially in such beautiful scenery. Yeah Corsair it's different to power flying in that you cannot just put the power on and climb, you really do have to read the sky. On thermal days you need to look for sunny slopes, dark paddocks etc, on light wind days you need to stay windward of ridges and on wave days get ready for a rough ride in the rotor but once you are in wave everything usually goes silky smooth.
