Another one of Doug Brooker's Spitfire, this time submitted by Gavin Conroy, from the air to air photo shoot he did with Alan Peart DFC and Gavin Trethewey in the Spitfire.

The header today is really Amazing. being at wing level has accentuated the feeling of being right there; outstanding! Can we see all of it somewhere Dave?

It was a well framed shot with the skyline above the plane for great contrast of form, highlighting the shape of the Spitfire, yet still with a blue sky background! Great choice!

I think they got the one of the aircraft crossing the coastline, Baz.

The latest header is a shot of forum stalwart and moderator Bruce Cooke flying his fantastic Avian Adventurer - which Bruce designed and built himself - at the Black Sands 2014 Fly-In at Raglan earlier this month. The photo was kindly submitted by Errol Cavit.

Time for a change, a Fairey Gordon in the hangar at Hobsonville (National Library photo) I'm not certain that I like it. Send in some suitable photos please for future banners - anything from NZ aviation is considered so long as it's a decent sharp photo that suits the banner dimensions. Cheers.

What's not to like with it we have history x2 in that photo. Being NO plane and NO Hobbie. The Hangar might be still standing but for how much longer.....

I like it. Even tbough a still pboto you have ground crew working on what appears to be a very new looking aircraft. I see the RAF serial still painted on. Would this be a just assembled aircraft being made ready for service?

Yes it probably is being assembled after arrival from the RAF. Most of the Gordons served at Wigram so it would have been getting assembled and prepared to move down south I guess.

I reckon that's a brilliant shot of an aircraft type not often seen in photos

I do too Shorty, it's just it looks a bit stretched on my screen as it was not a particularly high grade shot. Maybe we should have a Fairey Gordon Pile thread? A much under-rated and forgotten type.

Agree, Dave.
That shot of K4009 is very evocative.
A thread on the Gordon may elicit more rare photos and even help identify some more of the missing RAF to RNZAF serial tie ups. Some years ago, I found a couple of dual serials in a logbook at the Air Force Museum, so perhaps more research of other logbooks may help solve this mystery. The original page of the AF380 with the Gordon serials on it was torn out - never to be seen again.
If I can dig out some old photos, I'll put them up for all.

It is the Wings Over New Zealand Aviation Forum's 10th Anniversary this month, on the 26th of February in fact, so a header to mark that milestone. It features a montage of photos from the recent air race at Wings Over Wairarapa airshow.
