We were the last civvie plane to arrive so it was fitting we were the last civvie plane to leave. While I was preflighting the warbirds were all leaving so one of my passengers grabbed my camera and took the following shots: Full size hereFull size hereFull size hereBonus points for the nautically minded who know what that boat moored in the upper harbour is. I've got a short video clip of the P51's takeoff run which I'll post later. The Merlin still gives me the chills every time I hear it.

Bonus points for the nautically minded who know what that boat moored in the upper harbour is. It's an ex torpedo boat Fairmile. It's sat up there for years. Several used to work in the Hauraki Gulf as ferries, one doing a weekend picnic trip to Kawau Island.

I hit the quote button, and pasted the url into another window. After I closed the window with the resulting jpg, the image showed up in the forum window after refresh.

As an interesting footnote, one of the Fairmiles (and former Hauraki Gulf Ferry) is now sitting at Woodlyn Park near Waitomo caves after conversion to hotel units, similar to what happened to former RNZAF Bristol Freighter NZ5906.

Was a good show and very good value for money. I really liked all of the aircraft on static display and was very impressed with the newly restored Stearman.
Really enjoyed the C17. Going to make a huge call now.....I thought the F18 display was better than the Blue Angels!!!!!!! I saw them last year and they just go on and on! RAAF display was nice and close plus didn't matter if it were any longer or not.
I personally got abit bored with the endless UH1 displays, I guess they had to make up for gaps left with U/S aircraft.
Some of the commentary was abit interesting as well.....I am sure a P51's top speed of 450MPH is abit hi...especially with no swept wing!!!!
Anyway, not a bad day. Hopefully we will see more aircraft from overseas. Would love to see the French bring a Mirage 2000 here. They are always winning the Air Tattoo awards.

The thunder mustang web site ( checked there because I know Ive seen it there ) shows 439kts as vne ( top speed ) for a real P51, that is indeed around 450 mph . Thats not in level flight though .

It's not the Baroona, is it? The Baroona ended up as failed "pirate ship" themed restaurant in Manukau after an acrimonious court battle between the co-owners. The old ferry under the upper harbour bridges has been moored there since the mid '80s when it was part of a GST scam gone wrong. P.S Great photos guys, keep 'em coming.

Who was the wing walker at this show. Rustty had told me she was training a new girl for the job, is this her? Is Rusty still out there? I saw the Tiger Moth with another wing walker on TV last night as the show Who Dares Wins put a lady up on it. She screamed for five minutes and then was sick! I wondered if the poor pilot behind and below her copped it all.
Great shots there Colin.
I for one really enjoyed the Iroquois displays, they always impress me and I was also specifically filming Iroquois footage so the more the merrier.

Great shots here guys and good to see great coverage so soon after an airshow.
Dave, the wing walker is Susan Scott. Yet another Blenheimer doing great things in aviation. Many of you were probably instructed by her dad Steve Scott and I was one as well. Had a lot of fun flying aeros with him.
