So was there anything remotely related to D-Day in this airshow? Or was it just all Vietnam stuff, plus a Bf108 and a Yak?
Not commenting on the photos, just it seems odd that the event was called D-Day so i assumed it had that as a theme - ie Operation Overlord. The closest thing I've seen so far is a Dakota (in Vietnam War era colours dropping modern parachutes ). Did they do anything with a D-Day theme in the display?
The displays in the military museum were good, with a large Sword beach wargame and appropriate footage being played. There were substantial dealer tables with books, militaria etc. The re-enactors had their encampments set up (mainly WWII, one VN).
There was a Vietnam segment and a D-Day segment. The first had Yaks 'scrambling' after the Bird Dog spotted the airfield, infantry attack (with heli support), and what was meant to be support from the Dragonfly (which ended up being too late to help). The yanks got chased off I think (I was trying to get the Dragonfly, so wasn't paying too much attention).
The Huges and the Bell did a good display (the Yaks had been doing their display during the ground battle).
After a short-ish break there was the D-Day one. Replica (scale) FW and Spit had a tussle. The Dak dropped 'paratroops', who landed, morphed into dudes in green (with jeeps!), formed up and advanced. The Harvards supported the paras, whose attack stalled, requiring a second drop. The Bf started chasing Harvards somewhere in there, before the Mustang arrived. Paras did a final charge to take the objective.
