I'm sure the that the land concerned was significant to those that relied upon it for their daily existance - Maori, caucasian, settlers & farmers alike. Long before an aussie in a yank plane turned up.

I'm sure the that the land concerned was significant to those that relied upon it for their daily existance - Maori, caucasian, settlers & farmers alike. Long before an aussie in a yank plane turned up. Maybe so it was significant to those who lived there, and I have no doubt it was in some ways, but not culturally significant, ie significant to a culture as a whole. It was just a place to live or a farm like any other, that's what I meant. Now it's much more culturally significant in my opinion. And it was a Dutch aeroplane. Sorry if my point of view doesn't match with yours, and I'm not trying to be argumentative, just I feel there are lots of significant cultural groups in New Zealand who all have significant histories and importance and sadly the RNZAF's culture is getting significantly eroded fast lately and it's most important places of history are being wiped off the map, so I get upset when my cultural heritage is threatened even if it caused by actions well meaning that are supposedly meant to be repairing wounds done to other people's cultural heritage. Welcome to the forum by the way pepe.

Funny you should say " give them the Wairau river "Beagle . They allready have the river mouth " Wairua bar " ( which actually is an area of cultural sicnifigance - with burial sites etc there . I have no problem what so ever with that ) . I agree with dave though , there is nothing significant ( in a cultural sence ) about Woodburne , other than dollar signs !

Did you know the government gave the Taupo lakebed to Ngati tuwharetoa in a Treaty of Waitangi settlement and yet this tribe was one of several who did not sign the Treaty of Waitangi. How does that make sense.
