Does anyone have any updates of the current status of the 1:1 scale flying replica Spitfires that are being built in NZ? I think there are two Jurca Spitfires being built, one featured in Classic Wings ages ago and was to, from memory, be powered by an Allison engine.
How far away from flight are these aicraft?

Bruce West was/is building an SAC 1:1 replica - pics of the structure as it was then in Classic Wings 45 - no mention of a Jurca in NZ though. Says there that Bruce "has already secured an Allison engine for the project". I for one would love to see more Jurca Spits around the place, especially here. Given the money I'd have one built in a heartbeat....even have the mark and scheme in mind....

Thanks for the correction, I was going from memory. But I have certainly heard there's a Jurca being built in NZ, no sure if it was at North Shore or at Tauranga, cannot recall the details.

Isn't ther a near or full scale FW190 also due to fly soon? Was that a Jurca job as well? Seen pictures near completion a while ago...but nothing since.

3/4 Jurca. Very nice, too! It represents a D-9, is powered by an M-14 9cyl radial putting out 360hp (a la Yak-52) and is based at Wanaka. Looking forward to seeing that one flying....looks to be just a little smaller than a Spit! There's a pic in Classic Wings 69.

The Fw190 MJ-8 ZK-YKZ has a swiss previous identity. Did it fly there, or was that just a reservation during construction? Also, don't forget the L M Harris Spitfire ultralight ZK-JNM which has been flying locally for some time - complete with bullet holes

Interesting Phillip. Is that one of those Aussie Supermarine Mk26 kits?
Also, is that a Wilga behind?

400hp Chevrolet, nice bit of kit. May I enquire as to the approximate cost of such an engine?

A V8-powered 90% scale Supermarine Spitfire is being constructed in the South Island for a Wanganui owner.....very exciting! I believe it will be registered ZK-SPT. Not sure when we can expect it here.

I see a CAA accident report ( its going back a couple of weeks , so may have already been commented on here somewhere ) , that Gilles Kupfer's Jurca FW190 suffered a ground loop at Wanaka . Suffered damaged wing tip , collapsed r/h undercarage and prop strike . Hopefully its not too bad .

Suffered damaged wing tip , collapsed r/h undercarage and prop strike . Hopefully its not too bad . I think it was mentioned in a Wanaka thread that it had had a mishap and wasn't seen flying. It was on semi-display in a hangar - Zac got an OK photo I think? The people there said it was no great drama. Anyway, the CAA Weekly Accident reports (Reported 20 April) are at www.caa.govt.nz/Weekly_Accident_Reports/weekly_accident_reports.htm
