I am currently downloading ( slowly) an episode of Sounds Historical which has an episode within of the 1980's radio show From The Back Country where helicopter pilot Dave Richardson apparently talks about flying choppers in the 1960's and 1970's. It could be really interesting. Here's the link: www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/soundshistorical/20090802

Talks about being shot at, and the (unrelated) crash that killed his shooter and broke his back in the back of beyond. Also note 1909 NZ Zeppelin scare (see blog series of the UK version at airminded.org/archives/scareships-1909/), and "Gerry Wright talks about his naval career and his writing of books on naval history."

Hi Dave, I downloaded Daves interview, but it made an ogg file and I can't open it, can you suggest a way of saving it so my XP can reuse it, also the same with the Burt Munro story. Dave was at my wedding, in his wheelchair, my wife used to go to Martins bay and cook for Dave, but went shopping in Invercargill instead of going with Dave the day he crashed, the other twist to it Dave said if he took Lyn with them they would have gone straight to Martins Bay and the engine out would have still happened but the outcome may have been better.

Hi Dave, there are two download options, Ogg and MP3. I download the MP3 because I don't know what Ogg is, and it always works. Note the options are under the main link to the first and second hour. The recording was actually really interesting, I had not heard of him before but yes he described the crash etc, very sad but I guess he was lucky to survive those nights in the cold. Amazing he got back into flying! As inspiring as Sir Tim's story. Is Dave still alive these days? The recording was from 1980.
Good luck with the download.

Hi dave, got it downloaded thanks, Dave's living in Nelson, got a house-bus and travels around a bit. When Lyn went to Martins Bay with them she took a hair dryer on the first trip, but didn't dear tell anyone.
thanks again, keep up the good work
