It is the Auckland city coat of arms. I have a MS word file for inkjet printing the decals for a 1/72 DC6, including the crest. send me a PM with your e-mail and I can send it through.

Hi Bruce, Any chance of getting a copy of that file? I'm building an RNZAF DC-6 for a display at the Henderson RSA and was trying to track down a copy to the crest. Also, do you know how much of a plug has to be removed from the fuselage of the Heller DC-6B kit to make a DC-6A? Thanks. Rotorhead

Sure I can send the file. send me a pm with your e-mail and I'll send it out tonight. Its just the titles and emblems - I used roundels from the spares box (although the fuse roundels arent entirely accurate) There is no difference in fuselage length between the A and B models. Possibly some variation in window and door config but nothing too major. see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_DC-6If I remember correctly I had to reprofile the nose to show the non - radar profile.

Thanks Bruce, but as I'm new to this, can you please explain what a 'pm' is, and where do I sent it?

no worries rotorhead. PM is personal message. If you look up at the top of your page you'll see a little thing saying "hey rotorhead you haveX new messages". click on that link and you get something that looks like an e-mail application. Use the send function and just put my username (Bruce) as the recipient and write up a short message with your e-mail address, and I'll send the file off to you.

That's a done deal thanks Bruce! I've had a look at several photos and the nose will require re-profiling, however, do you have any info on the 'canoe fairing' on the fwd lefthand lower fuselage? I believe this is an ILS/radar housing.

I've no idea what this is - I think ADF sounds right! I built mine up from laminated platic strip, sizing based on the TLAR* method from photos (*That looks about right)

Hey rotorhead. Just saw the post about Henderson RSA. My father-in-law is a member there and so was curious about this build. Was this a commission or did you offer it? Are there other aircraft planned? Is this for a permanent display or for some event?
Regards, Craig.

Thanks for your swift response , and for the help . One point for those building this aircraft , Heller produced several offerings on the basic design and there are at least two different fuselage mouldings and possibly more . One is probably a basic C118 while another is more likely a later DC6 . This does matter as for example the door sizes are different . Also on the inside of the fuselage halves you will find there are several window configurations thinly blanked over . Of course I only discovered this after I had cut up my "late" DC 6 in an attempt to create a C54 . The USAF C118 boxing has the early type fuselage .

The base kit for mine was the airliner version - which included a Scandanavian Airlines example. At the time I built it using the SAS detail options, as I wasnt sure on exact window and door config. I made that call as the ex RNZAF - TEAL - BCPA examples were originally built for SAS! whether that was 100% accurate I dont know, and to be honest, dont care now....

Hi Craig, sorry I haven't replied to your post until now. I've only just got back on-line. The RSA is in the process of building a permanent display of RNZAF aircraft (and some army vehicles). I was approached by the organiser to build a couple of models for him. There are others building various kits for him as well. I'm not sure when the display will be ready, but hopefully sometime early this year. Rotorhead.
