Finally, I'm back to work on Tuesday. Starting at Rio's North Parkes mine. Not super ideal given we live in West Wyalong but I'm happy to be bringing some money through the door again.

Great stuff, will be a relief.
Looks like I've picked up a job too after getting made redundant from Qantaslink in October.
Was up in PNG this week for an interview with Air Niugini, job is mine if I want it.
5 weeks on 5 weeks off in Port Moresby and flying back to Melbourne for time off.

That sounds an interesting job Ox. Is it still a bit rough up there these days?

T Is it still a bit rough up there these days? Very much - but nothing that can't be overcome with common sense. Will be accommodated at the Gateway at the airport which is pretty secure.

I have heard the cops don't go out at night for fear of their lives. Nice neighbourhood. But the Gateway should be safe as.

It would be good to see some photos from PNG. I'll be taking a few when I get up there - was going to take a camera for the short trip but both of them were in getting repaired after my Egypt trip.

Just got back from my first tour to PNG. Was supposed to be 60 days but came out yesterday after 6 weeks as my work permit has been approved so need to be out of the country to process the visa. Have to say I really like it up there, work with Air Niugini is good with heaps of variety. Outside of work there are a good group of guys in my complex so social side is good, enough to keep you from going nuts - I'm probably drinking a bit too much beer though I've done the PNG Airworthimess exam so should have my licence issued in the next week or so. Also looks like I will be off to canada at some stage for a Q400 course as well, first one turns up in July with another in November. Have a few pics......... Night time in the hangar P2-ANX gutted for C Checks and mods And life outside of work........ Royal Papua Yacht Club The pool at my apartment complex And about 10pm on a Friday night after a couple of quiet sherberts at the Areoclub after work - me on the right

Very interesting photos Ox. The hangar shots are quite atmospheric at night, and the aircraft look really nice. A bit spartan inside but very smart looking. Is it pretty hot up there in Moresby?

Is it pretty hot up there in Moresby? Bloody hot. Humid and low 30s during the day and overnight temps of low to mid 20's. It's killer on the ramp and you sweat buckets. All the offices and accomodation are air conditioned so there is respite and we have big portable A/C units for the aircraft in the hangar. hangar is open both ends so you sometimes get a breeze thru which is nice.
