While in BNE and with brother in law Mal's help I was lucky to get a look at the aviation museum at Caboolture and noted the tennis balls in the Mustang's engine exhausts. Is it to stop birds or insects or something else? Very wet place this time of year and hot. We did get some fine patches and many thanks to Craig a great morning spotting at BNE airport. Colin

exhaust plugs normally keep out birds and moisture (which can corrode valve stems). The tennis balls look good - Sea Fury ZK-SFR used to have a chain of bath plugs!

Is it my imagination or is the spinner on that Mustang non-standard? The prop looks right but the spinner makes the front end of the aircraft like more 'spitfire-ish'. What do you guys think?

It might be the camera lens distorting it slightly?

It might be the camera lens distorting it slightly? Correct, I was using a very wide angle lens Sigma 10-20mm on a Nikon DX camera which has a 1.5x crop so at the widest setting of 10mm it would be 15mm. Very good lens however in tight places, allowing for some distortion. Thanks for the feed back on tennis balls. Cheers

Would be interesting to leave the tennis balls in on startup - More fun than swingball!
