I was afraid you were going to say that , that's about 1 1/2 return airfares to the States and I am not sure I can justify that sort of expenditure on a hobby . I wonder if I could get it as duty free on an overseas trip , would it be that much cheaper ?

I find it adequate but not great for most airshows, those with more skill than I would presumably do better. It is some what lighter etc than the pro lenses, which is more important to me when at re-enactor type events.

I currently use a Canon 75-300mm EF lense on my EOS450D that is very good air airshow work. You could try and purchase one of these through Harvey Normans or similar outlets, alternately the Canon EF90-300mm F/4.5-5.6 lense would be a good option. From current prices you should be able to pick up one of these lenses for around NZD $600

I already use a Tamron 75-300 and just want more , I had picked the slightly bigger Canon lens as a step up in range and a few steps up in quality but the cost is the big issue . The first reply sort of confirmed my own thinking . I am certainly not a professional , but I do enjoy collecting photographs of aircraft and it seems only natural to get them in their element , airborne .

Decisions , decisions , I really hate decisions , if I bought the lens it would cost more than twice the value of my car , but then again my bike is worth more than ten times what the car is worth , I am not hugely in debt , got the bach at the beach , maybe the new roof it desperately needs can wait a little longer ! Anyone got a prediction for the weather this winter in the Bay of Plenty ?

So you reckon the roof will keep for another year ?

You wouldn't be related to the bloke selling the lens would you ?
