I was at Mangere dropping off a passenger leaving for the States and decided afterwards to pop up to the viewing area upstairs . The windows were crowded with people and I quickly realised the Aussies were about to leave , I managed to get the camera out just in time to see the Tanker rise and by standing on a rubbish bin also caught the two pairs and singleton F18's climb into the sky . Why did they not use Whanuepai ?

Maybe they couldn't find Whanuepai on the map?

no worries dave, I thought your point was about RAAF nav skills ;D and pronouncing whenuapai - another matter entirely eh. BTW, was the base name abbreviated by you guys there e.g. "Willi" - Williamtown

I've never heard Whenuapai being abbreviated, McMaster, but Hobsonville was often known as Hobby, and Woodbourne as Woody Valley.
