Just checked my photos of the Magister going up and I'd forgotten that we added the wings later? The Tiger Moth certainly all went up in one go and only just fit on top of the Bomber Command display room.

That 'link' is not a link. Cheers, sorted. Although I had to leave the warm spot in front of the TV (with iPhone) to go and get the laptop. I'm tempted to let the dog onto the couch to help warm me up!

Its been a busy week at MOTAT with most of the aircraft being Moved. On Wednesday the Harvard, Auster, Hudson and Mosquito were all outside. I hope to have a few photos to post. The Mossie went into the new hangar after a short airing, the Magister is in the restoration hangar for a clean up and the Ventura will follow. The Lodestar will be a very long term project. I am told the plan is to repaint the Sunderland and Solent over summer then they will move into their new and permanent home. There doesnt seem to be any plans for the Devon to appear. At Bomber Command the nose cone of the Grandslam was finally put on , the tail is next .

Cool. How's the Hudson looking, is the restoration complete now?
So the Solent is getting repainted again now? Good to hear. Someone had said they reckoned it didn't need a repaint after being out in the rain to get the grime off.

The Hudson looks very shiny, but some may query its markings. The Solent had been varnished after the last repaint and a year in the sun and rain stripped it off. It had become very yellow. The Mossie is in postwar silver with blue roundels and the Harvard in training yellow. Hopefully all the remotely operated rudder etc on the Harvardwill be quite an attraction

MOTAT’S aviation display hall has more action on the wings than the All Blacks.
Brace yourselves; New Zealand’s largest clear span wooden structure is steadily taking form at MOTAT, with the new $15 million Aviation Display Hall set for completion in time for the anticipated influx of domestic and international visitors in September.
The 2,750m² custom designed Display Hall is more than double the size of MOTAT’s existing Aviation Hangar and will house around 40 MOTAT aircraft including the newly loaned RNZAF Skyhawk, Sunderland and Solent flying boats, Lancaster Bomber, DC3, Cessna and Tiger Moth.
The construction phase follows stage one of the aviation project, the relocation and restoration of MOTAT’s original World War II Blister Hangar. The Blister Hangar is the workshop for the volunteers who restore the aircraft in the collection.
Get along to MOTAT’s brand new Aviation Display Hall from 9 September to learn about New Zealand’s aviation history and the stories associated with our magnificent aircraft collection, housed in a world class structure.
The Minister of Defence, the Commandant of the New Zealand Cadet Forces and a large number of ex cadets and officers will commemorate seventy years of training the future leaders of New Zealand. Leaders such as former cadets Les Mills CNZM, MBE and Air Marshal Sir Kenneth William Hayr KCB, KBE, AFC & Bar. Ex Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, The Right Honourable Bob Tizard, CNZM was there when the Squadron was established at Auckland Grammar in 1941.

Great to see the "old" hangar looking as flash now as the new hangar extension - the shiny floor is great. As I understand it the location of the aircraft is completely temporary until the really big exhibits are ready to move in over summer. The Lanc and Mossie together at last is fantastic. Can't wait for the Kittyhawk, Hudson and Ventura to be all together finally as well.
