The Mosquito looks fantastic! Good to see the aeroplanes are getting a bit of a buff up, wish they would dust them more often.

The Mosquito looks gorgeous! I love it!
I couldn't help but be distracted, though, by the clipped P-40 wing visible in one shot.

No the P40 isnt a clipped wing model, the tip was removed to allow a bit more room during parking. The layout is temporary until the Solent and Sunderland come back inside. The new Bomber Command displays are coming along nicely while opposite there is a nice art deco de Havilland display room. I will try for a few more photos later this week.

The P-40 has had its wingtip missing for many years, as well as the centres of the roundels. I hope they have finally been fixed during the move so it no longer looks RAAF?

The Lanc and Mossie look excellent, great to have some lights on things now.
The view from the mezzanine floor is clearly going to be great when the flying boats move in. It would be great Dave to keep it uncluttered but I think things will fill up a lot in the next twelve months.
I'm a bit annoyed at the Motat facebook page quoting the Skyhawk, which clearly is not on site yet. Little inaccuracies just aren't required.

Can't wait to get back on Saturday so I can go and visit Sunday. Lighting looks good for taking photos. No glass to let the light in and be glary. That has been an issue up here in Seattle. The Flying Heritage Collection is particulary bad but redeemed itself with a flying display of the PO2, I16 and a fast taxi of the MIG 29. Well done to the team at MoTaT.

Meant to say post more photos everyone for those of us who can't make it for a while.
I'm trying to think of anywhere else in the world with a Lanc and Mossie side by side?

I think considering it's such a rarity and representing its type, it's a pity the Mosquito does not wear RNZAF roundels.

btw - great pic of the deHavilland's being cornered by the scary Airtruck They don't look too concerned. One even has her wings still folded! ;D Man, there's some history in that building. Wow. Many thanks for the photos, Peter. Btw, is the little 'building' behind the Moths supposed to look like a little flight office? If so, very clever and well thought out.

HI there,
Just wanted to say that I attended the first function to held in the new Display hall when No.3 Sqn ATC hosted a Cocktail party on the Mezzanine floor to celebrate the Sqn's 70th Anniversary. Great environment looking out over the collection proudly on display, listening to some nice tunes being played by the RNZAF Base Auckland Brass Band.
Got to say I was very impressed with the finished product of the hangar. Awesome facility in Central Auckland.
No shown in the photo's is a RNZN Wasp next to the P40.
Guest of Honour at the Cocktail party was Dr. Wayne Mapp, Minister of Defence, who during his speech, mentioned that MOTAT was soon to recieve it's A4 example, and to follow in time examples each of the Macchi, Sioux and Iroquios. Heaps of room left to bunch up the aircraft and move in some stable mates.
You can walk through the little building which has a displays of De Hav propellors and history of the De Hav production line in NZ.
Also opposite the Lanc, is a Swordfish type aircraft (not entirely sure of type) which forms part of the Fleet Air Arm section of the Museum.
Pretty cool and I fully recommend you go along when you're in AKL next.
