Hi all
I got inspired to do this one after reading of the encounter in 'Jg26 war Diary Vol 2'
March 7th 1945 10./Jg26 with the rest of III gruppe took part in a 'freie Jagd' to Emmerich. They became involved with Typhoons, Tempests and Spitfires attacking ground targets.
Uffz Salewski flying Fw190D-9 Black 4 W.Nr400247 became engaged with Sdn Ldr Evan Mackie of 80Sqn flying Tempest NV700 W2*A, They entered a vicious Turning fight in 5/10th cloud at 900m off the ground which was so intense that Vapour trails from the wingtips was almost constant.
Every time Mackie got into a firing position the German Pilot would cut the Throttle and roll the opposite way Throwing off The New Zealand pilots aim and causing him to overshoot.
It wasn't till some Spitfires distracted the attention of the Luftwaffe flier that Mackie could get in a telling burst, the German Fighter went in taking Salewski with it.
As Soon as I read it I remembered that Mackies biography featured the combat report from this action and he said it was the hardest combat he had been involved in and he was wringing with sweat when he got out of the cockpit it was also his last of 20 solo kills.
Firstly I needed to create skins for the aircraft in Question.
Mackies aircraft was found at www.hawkertempest.se/
so that was easy.
The Fw190D is part of the 400xxx of aircraft built by WFG, unfortunately the block of aircraft 400201-400320 is only known by a couple of photos of burnt out wrecks so the paint scheme can only be guessed based on later blocks. Japos 'Fw190D camouflage and markings part 2' put its as RLM 82/83 over standard RLM76 so I went with that.
Other 10 staffel Doras also used the vertical gruppe bar so I included that as well as the RVD band which was very common with Jg26 late in the war.
