Did anyone know about a book launch at Motat today. I stumbled across it, the Book is called Kiwi's do Fly, focuses on Kiwis on active service in Europe, it is a Bomber command association effort. There were many former crew there signing, I took some pics and will post them when my computer is sorted....

I think there is mention of this book in the latest edition of NZ Aviation News.
Did you nab a copy for yourself?

I did, I had a birthday a few weeks ago and had a little spare cash that needed a home. I almost didn't get one but the opportunity to have it signed by poeple in the book was too much to pass. It looks like it is a collection of memories reflecting service experiences, easy to read. But I have to say , more humbling to me these men( and women) I have very little access to a computer at the moment, so I will post the pictures soon.

Sorry you all didnt get an invitation. Plenty of veterans there signing including Les Munro and Jim Sheddan of 486 Sq. The book is a first hand account of Kiwis in Bomber Command. I was lucky to uncover some great photo albums so the 270pp have 450 photos. Its now with most NZ museums plus the major book stores. Reviews have been pretty good but really its the veterans approval that means most. Hope you enjoy it Peter Wheeler

Hi Peter, welcome to the forum, it is really great to have you here. I have seen both your books on the Bomber veterans, and I love the work you do. I have been filming a number of these bomber veterans (and many other WWII vets) with Richard for the museum project by the way. Great guys, all of them. Such amazing stories.

Congratulations Peter for a book well done.
For forum members information, Whitcoulls have a 30% Discount off promotion on Non Fiction books until tomorrow, Sunday August 15. I picked up this book from their Browns Bay store this morning, along with a number of other books relating to New Zealand Military history during WWII. Also picked up Ian Brodie's latest Warbirds over Wanaka 2010 downstairs at their Queen Street store.....all less 30% off their retail prices, quite a saving if you are wishing to invest further in your military and especially aviation history reference library. ......I get around a bit, especially on a wet dreary Saturday!!

I presume so.... Blame Glen Turner for my interest in 75 Sqn but I am interested in all Kiwi bomber command people. Wish I could have been at the book signing!!! Too far from here.. I look forward to obtaining a copy... Dee

Sorry for the gap in replying, we have just had our NZBCA luncheon last week, just on 100 turned out. It all takes time. KDF is meant to be available from Midland Counties/Ian Allan but with the takeover it was temporarily lost in their system. I hope is is now listed, after all they have bought the stock!

It's a really good book. I have not yet read it all but have read individual chapters when I get the chance. Loads of excellent previously unseen photos and lots of excellent stories from kiwis in Bomber Command. I most definately recommend Kiwis Do Fly.

My copy finally arrived today and am impressed. Superb-looking book and supports my theory that Kiwis make the best-looking paperbacks.

Thanks for that, the aircrew veterans who supplied the material were a bit shy in releasing a lot of their memories but were rather proud of the result. On a commercial level we do need some distribution in Australia and the Uk. Does anyone have contacts?

I have ordered it from a New Zealand site cos I didnt want to wait for them to sort themselves out. It was out of stock but have just heard that they now have it in so I am anxiously awaiting its arrival.... Oh by the way get your distributor or one of the NZ/Aussie bookshops to get it put on Alibris, Amazon or Abe Books as they are very good... Dee
