www.stuff.co.nz/national/4070884/Morons-act-of-devastationThe above is a link to the latest in a number of articles about drivers who flee police and the devastation they cause. Police pursuit policy is being debated but the plea from society at large is 'just stop'. I know when I got my driver's license back in 1983 my old man drummed into me that if a police car/traffic cop ever put their lights on when driving behind me I should pull over. Well about sixteen years later that did happen and I did pull over, result a fine for no current wof. It seems to me that the current generation of 'new' drivers have a higher percentage of idiots/morons who either "panic" because they are in violation of their learners license or have 'form' and choose to flee. The consequences as per the article above can be devastating for innocent people caught up in this madness. I can't honestly say it's 'all' younger drivers as I have seen plenty pulled over at the side of the road, so they can make the right decision. Maybe it's a combination of drink/drugs, friends in the car egging them on and poor decision making?? No easy answers here.

This is an issue that is all too often rearing its head. Drink and drugs are a huge problem that we ignore and I can only wonder what it will take for our leaders in Wellington to get off their bums and do something about it.
