Quite an amazing day in the country side in the Nelson area today. This Mk 1 Avro Anson runs number 1 engine for the first time with the second to follow in the next few months and it will fly once everything is just right. The aircraft is coming along well and really is a love affair for the Reid family. It really is amazing to see what they are doing and this aircraft is being rebuilt to the highest standard and is stunning. It is hoped the aircraft will fly at Classic Fighters 2011 and one of the team said to me "Don't worry it will be there" Well done to Bill and his team!! Video Link:

Nice work on the profile so far.
Sorry I cant help with the details you are after.
Classic Airframes did a really nice 1/48 Anson kit a couple of years ago. They did 3 versions from memory (Early, late and Post War). I have seen a couple built up and they look really good.
But you are right poor ol Annie needs a little more attention, which I think is what makes this plane even more special!!
Cheers Anthony

I'd say that many people aren't specifically interested in this type of aircraft, because it's probably not "glamourous" enough for them? Aircraft like the Anson performed an essential role in multi-engined crew training (as well as roles such as maritime patrol at the start of the war) throughout WWII - but once the fighting is over this type of aircraft is quickly forgotten about by many people - unlike aircraft like the Spitfire and Lancaster. Once this Anson is flying and displayed at a few air shows around NZ, I reckon it'll pique the interest of a few more people though. Looks like they're doing an absolutely amazing job with the restoration work too. Well done to all involved.

Yes I agree, most people know what a Spitfire or a Lancaster is but and Anson or an Oxford and its "Huh?? Whats that" Its sounds awesome to not that deep rumble you might get from say a Harvard but a nice smooth purr. Cannot wait to see her in the flesh at Omaka (or anywhere!!)

Some progress on this. Unfortunately the only walkaround I can find on this is the Duxford bird which has a later cowl and greenhouse arrangement. The only one in existance that I know of this is the same as the one I'm drawing is in Australia. Now, Otters may be able to swim...but not THAT far!!! Hmmmnnnnn...dunno how to post images here. Check the link in my first post. Attachments:
