Reg Wellington of Rotorua is trying to convince the New Zealand Government to support a tour of New Zealand veterans who served in the RNZAF, Army and Navy up in the Pacific in World War Two. he feels, rightly so, since the Government has over the years supported and funded tours of verterans for European and North African campaign tours, the Pacific vets should get the same deal. The Government has never provided a tour for Pacific veterans. See more about his campaign on the main website here www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/Pacific%20Revisited.htmI really hope he can succeed in this. The Pacific veterans have as much right as those who served in the Battle of Britain, Monte Cassino, El Alamein, D Day and all the other places where tours have already been convened. Perhaps more right, as their efforts stopped a direct threat to New Zealand.

Er, he was. You dragged up a very old thread. Reg did convince the Govt of the day to put on the tour and they did take a Boeing load of Pacific vets, many of them ex-RNZAF, up to Bourail and a few other places. When they returned they marched at the head of the VJ Day +60 parade.
Since then sadly Reg has passed away, as have a few other Pacific veterans I knew who went on that trip. But they all loved the opportunuty.

Glad to hear it was successful, especially as some of them are no longer with us.
