I took this last Saturday by chance, as I was passing the Cambridge Cenotaph, I thought it looked quite awesome.

By the way it is a standard lens, not fish-eye, in a standard Lumix point and click camera, and not photoshopping except a resize and sharpen.

Nice shot Dave, nice colour. Worked for Baker Construction from Cambridge for a couple of years. The Ross boys, they had a mk4 zephyr with an IO540 in it doing 1/4 miles.

The Ross boys are still in town and still have the construction company but it's got a different name since they bought it back. It's based at Hautapu now. Their late father Jim was in the RNZAF, as was the late Arthur Baker who began Baker Construction. I knew their Mum, Shirley, quite well but sadly she too has passed away now.
Beagle, you must visit our fine town someday, you've been missing out. It's very modern and sophisticated here but retains the olde world charm, much like Christchurch did before it fell down.

Awesome Pic Dave, spring has well and truely sprung, that high Cirrus is indicative of an approaching front. By the way..when did Cambridge get the automobile? :-)

I quite like passing through Cambridge when I drive between Auckland and Wellington. Looks very English really.

Some years ago Cambridge was voted by some English magazine or newspaper as the 'most English town outside of England in the world'. More recently that has been enhanced by many hundreds, perhaps thousands, of English people who've emigrated to the town. When we lost our Borough status and were force by the government to become a super city with Waipa, it opened up the possibilities for expanding the town outside the Greenbelt, which has seen the twon population double in size in 20 years, we now have around 20,000 people here and there are still more sub-divisions going in. A lot of the people moving here are British as it's like a slice of home without all the bad things of living in the modern UK, so they tell us locals.
I might point out to Beagle that out population is five times bigger than the village of Rolleston, and I'm sure we have many more cars, including lots of flash ones. Some of the richest people in NZ live here, including the horsey people but lots of others too. Plus most of the NZ olympic team, some of NZ's top motor racing drivers, singers, etc. It's the hub of NZ.
