The Herald said seven navy ships. I didn't know we had seven navy ships! Great photos but don't get too excited! Painting what are nothing more than Coast Guard/training vessels grey doesn't make them real "Navy" ships in my opinion. Even our unsophisticated P-3K could have sunk the lot of them without any of them being able to do much about it. Real Navy ships could shoot back (at considerably more than visual range) and have some hope of hitting the target! The whole fleet of "Project Protector" vessels are an expensive waste of money (no disrespect to the Navy guys and gals who are trying to make the most of them - its the pollies my bullets are aimed at). I'm surprised they found enough crew for them all... must have taken everyone off the Frigates just to man them

Great photos Chris. I doubt there are many opportunities to get the whole fleet together like this, so what was the actual occasion?

I gather it was a chance to formally welcome the two new offshore patrol Vessels HMNZS Otago and Wellington.
According the the NZ Herald, "Commodore Ross Smith, Maritime Component Commander said the arrival of the two vessels meant the Naval Patrol Force is "completed and fully operational"."
A pity the two frigates weren't able to take part then, but maybe their presence would have taken some of the thunder away from the newer but smaller ships?

Thanks for that. I guess now they will be spread widely around the country and such a gathering will be a rarity (although does the Navy still mass on Waitangi for the February 6th event?).

Neat pics, a bushmaster and a pair of 50 cals on the OPV's tho? And 3 x 12.75 mm on the IPV's? No surface to air or surface to surface technology at all? Sounds like a water taxi service. No disrespect to their crews either of course.
So the OPV's will carry an Augusta 109 rather than a Seasprite? Will that be armed?
After a bit of reading the Helicopter upgrades for the RNZAF seem to be a promising exercise tho.
