Great news tonight on 3 News, a brand new James Bond film has been given the go ahead for production, once again starring Daniel Craig. The next Bond movie has been delayed for some time after its production company's financiers got into strife.
Filming will begin for this 23rd 'official' Bond film at the end of 2011.
I'm very pleased, they finally got Bond right with the last two. Daniel Craig is awesome as Bond. Dropping all the cheesy jokes and gimmicky gadgets and getting back to the Bond that Ian Fleming wrote about was a good move. I still enjoy the older films, especially Connery's early ones, but it had turned into a bit of a circus for a while, especially in the 1980's where it became more of a camp comedy than a spy thriller.
The new film is yet to be titled.

I'm happy with all the Bonds, even Peter Sellers. ;-) VERY glad to see he'll be back.

I found it really interesting reading about X Force as it gave me some insight into the sort of stuff he would write up for Bond...

For my money the current generation (Craig) bonds are the best ever (having seen almost all of them at some point). They have a brutal gritty cynicism that is both needed and mostly absent from the previous campy outings, with the near exception of the Timothy Dalton era. I have never understood why Sean Connery is so rated. He just seems very good at playing Sean Connery (a bit like Anthony Hopkins).

Connery was better than his predecessor in the role though.

I like Sean Connery, But I have to say that Daniel Craig takes Bond to a whole new level. Perhaps it is because of his time on the TV series "Spooks", but he has the real"sinister, Dark side" which none of the other Bonds have ever had. I watched "Quantum of Solace" the other night, and him and Dame Judi Dench are both awesome in it (ignore the dubious DC3 sequence though!....) Bring on Bond 23!

I am completely the other way around. I think the producers of the new James bonds have ignored some of the fundamental elements that should have stayed in the new bond films, such as when James walks out and shoots the circle and it turns red. That is missing from the newest bond, and was only at the end of quantum of solace. Also Q, or whoever was replacing him, was missing, as was Miss Moneypenny, for the first time ever. Also there were little discrepancy's between the old bonds and the two new ones. For example has anyone noticed that Felix, the CIA agent, has changed from a white guy (in the old movies) to a black guy? Also when Judi Dench took over as M during one of the Pierce Brosnan bond movies, during the movie they were talking about what it was like to have the "new" M as a woman. Yet the new bond movies, which are prequels have M as a woman (Judi Dench), meaning that having a woman M is not new at all. I just think that all the tradition of the old James Bond movies was thrown out when the last of the original producers was killed. The gadgets represented British ingenuity, and were brilliant. My favorite bond was Roger Moore.

Ah how I loved the oldies. Thunderball and Goldfinger are some of my favourites...

I'm in two minds about a new Daniel Craig Bond flick.
His first one with Casino Royale was great but that last one Quantum of Bollocks or whatever it was called was absolute crap - the only good thing about it was that sultry brunette, the rest of the film was bullshit.
Plus with the new one, the director has to have a chat with Craig and get him to tone down his "tough" look. Rather that looking like he means business he looks like he needs to go to the loo to do his business.
Connery was, and always will be, the best.

Agreed, smithy. I thought Quantum of Solace (loved your version btw) was disappointing especially on the heels of Casino Royale. I've often wondered how the Bond franchise will fare now that the Cold War is over. A lot of the intrigue and mystery was contextual to that era I think, despite the campiness of Roger Moore (which reached a height in Moonraker). Maybe Cold War 2.0 will be good for the film industry if nothing else?

" when James walks out and shoots the circle and it turns red. That is missing from the newest bond"
That is a gun barrel, note the rifling, of a sniper which Bond shoots in these title sequences, and the red is the sniper's blood. It's one of the most famous title sequences in the world and I don't know why they dropped it, but it's only a title sequence and has no bearing on the film itself.
Felix Lietner has changed actors in virtually every film and he has been black before, I'm sure.
From memory Q only appeared in one or two books, the character that Desmond Llewellyn filled so well was created largely for the films. He's dead, John Cleese was just silly, and so it was dropped. No biggie.
Even if you don't like the new ones, there are 22 + 1 to look back on and continue to enjoy. I personally like them all but I think it's taken a huge leap in the right direction now.

Its funny, with all those bond movies made throughout the cold war, it wasn't until the first Pierce Brosnan one (Golden eye) that the Russian were the bad guys (made after the cold war had ended). throughout the rest of the movies it was evil corporations, and scientists, and rogue generals. In the old movies the Russians and British secret service worked together, with Bond even shagging their top agent, in "The spy who loved me" Bond even recieved Russian medals in some of the movies, if i remember rightly...

Goldeneye is still my favourite Brosnan Bond flick, followed by TWINE. I liked Dalton, altho I never liked the fact he didn't look like he was in control. Lazenby did an OK job in my book but just had a hard act to follow. Moore was my era, I enjoyed the campyness. It was different but still well done and enjoyable to watch, especially "For your eyes Only". TBH my least favourite is Brosnan, he really added nothing to the genre, still enjoyed his movies tho.
Now Craig. Casino Royal was good, very true to the book in a lot of aspects. QOS I honestly can't even remember. Which means its time to re-watch. :-) So far he's done an OK job tho.
Anyone ever see The secret life of Ian Flemming? Oh, and I do miss Q, Desmond Lewelyn did a great job and I think John Cleese would have done a great R, but there has to be a reason for him to be there.

I think the fight scenes that Daniel Craig has done are the most brutal, tough realistic fights ever in Bond and perhaps on film. Some scenes do suspend belief a bit like the fight in Quantum where they are in a building being restored and are doing flywire fighting on a series of ropes, but just the work and prep that went into fighting that scene must have been phenominal. Craig does most of his own fighting and high up work too.
The first thing I ever saw Daniel Craig in was Sword of Honour by Evelyn Waugh, which was Waugh's own experiences in the Greek campaign in 1941. I thought Craig was excellent but when he was announced as Bond I was hugely sceptical that he'd pull it off. He has surprised me immensely at how good he is in the role, and how he can do other parts without the Bond stigma. I can't watch Brosnan, Dalton or Moore in anything without thinking of and comparing to Bond nowadays.

I think all the different Bond actors have done good and bad films. My favourite Connery ones would have to be Thunderball and You only Live Twice. Moore was kind of silly, but they are still entertaining in a camp kind of way. I think Casino Royale was better than QOS; I wonder if they are going back to pre-SPECTRE days, and the origins of that sinister secret organisation. It would be kinda cool if they re-invented SPECTRE, and updated it.

Which film had an invisible car? I can't remember that.
