Don't know if this is the correct place to post this, but I've just found a heap - and I mean a heap - of NZ light aircraft photos on TradeMe.
The seller's handle is "blokes".
A mildly interesting aspect is that I hold the original of one of them, and I sure didn't buy it from him!

I've Lready received one photo of ZK-CBG from this guy, before I paid I asked if he had any others. Couple days later three more get listed, and I get an email saying "no more that I'm aware of, sorry". Hum. Anyway I won the other three fair and square, will ask again for any others as I pay. Out of interest I scanned the one I have and sent it to Ray Deerness, he confirmed it was a photo he had taken!

Damn, a source has been outed, I suppose the prices are going to go up now. ;D He has been quietly selling them for awhile now and I have bought a handful from him. I know of at least 2 other members here that have purchased from blokes. I have also bought some from the same broken up collection elsewhere. What I have been told about the collection from one of the dealers I bought off is that they came from a collector in Dunedin who passed away. After his death the photos went to auction and were sold in batches for ridiculously low prices ($50 for 2000). I'm assuming the auction was a stamp and postcard auction because the dealers that I purchased off sell mainly stamps and/or postcards on TradeMe. Given that collectors used to swap photos with each other it would not surprise me that there are duplicates from the same negative in different collections. I know that shorty and I have near identical period photos of an RNZAF Auster, probably for this reason.

Out of interest, how do you search trademe for a member's name rather than an item?

Dont really know how your supposed to Dave , but the way I did it was to start at the home page , then click on "My Trade me " . Near the bottom of that page is " More OPtions " . In this menue is " My Blacklist " . If you type a user into here , you will be able to view their current listings etc ( just dont forget to remove them from the blacklist ) . Theres probabally an easier way , but I'll have to wait till the kids get out of bed to ask them . ;D

You go "Community" "Member Profiles" "Get to know other members" and enter him.
The photo I have - with writing on the back also - is his ZS67 of CHK at Dannevirke, and I have reason to suspect it's taken by Dakman. Mine came off TradeMe from a broken-up collection and I believe it may have been the late Des White's. If his is indeed a "real photo", then his and mine came off the same negative and presumably have similar messages on the back.
I'm curious as another shot in there is the very rare air-to-air of AZZ that appears in The Topdressers amongst other things.
If checking through his listings, be warned that the a/c shots are scattered throughout how many ever pages there are!

In the 1960/70s we used to swap negs and prints with follow collectors often. And yes have seen pics i had taken turn up in magazines etc . Recall sending many negs and photos to Des White in CHCH over the years . Thought that the AHSNZ would keep it going tho . Heard or read somewhere that Ron Killick was selling a lot of his collectionalso . Thomarse that pic CHK Rural AVE C185 Could very likely be one of mine Another great collection is the late Gavin Woodwards he was always on the av scene all over the country perhaps some of his work is being sold too

Maybe we old guys should give some thought about a safe home for our collections after we take the final flight.

Good idea Peter but what is a safe place? I think about MOTAT in the past!
Rehaps a trust dedicated to preserving NZ aviation photographs and other related historical artifacts with strictly controlled access and run by trustees with a high reputation for integrity. Individual collections could be subject to audit by person who would be appointed by a nominated beneficiary of the donors will. This could continue until a stage is reached where no beneficiaries are interested in continuing at which time the collection could be incorprated into the main collection. Hopefully by then the trust would have esatablished a sound reputation. Funding could be achieved by selling photos to book publishers etc.
Just a thought at this time and probably a bit complicated. Any other ideas?

A website like Eddie Coates and Kiwibeavers?
Just been right through this; it's a Fletcherphile's paradise!
The guy's name is given as Ross. I bought my CHK shot from "ronbom" (Ron Ark) and I understand it to be ex the Des White collection which we may once have referred to as "AHSNZ Official"?

Pity it's not as simple as that Dave. The problem is the web photos are very low quality compared with negatives and slides held by many of us.

Yes, I was just kidding.
National Archives might be a good repository. They are an excellent place in terms of looking after stuff and also there is public access for researchers to use the items.

No problem really, so long as you acknowledge that you don't know the copyright owner, or if you do, post their name.
Photographer Peter Clark has made it expressly clear he does not want any of his photos posted here (many were sold off from the Wings Collection) so if his name appears on the photo please don't post (Ross Macpherson of Wings did note the photographers' names on his prints usually).

Can somebody please clarify this for me. If these photos are being sold from a collection how can that be done if the collection does not own the copyright when the actual photographers are still around and not wanting their photos distributed? Nobody in their right senses would sell the copyright of a photo they are supplying to help illustrate an article.

The only CBG shot I've received so far has no date or photographer name, just type, c/n and rego. The sellers name is Ross Alexander.

I'm not worried about the posting unless expressly prohibited, it's making money from them that I can't fathom.

Yes, post them all on the forum and they'll be preserved forever. ;D That does raise another potential problem. At some time in the future this proboard is going to go phut. It will eventually happen. What happens to all of the accumulated wisdom then? Is someone carefully archiving it all? I suspect not. I am a member of the Seawings board. That suffered when the hosting service folded, and we did lose quite a bit of stuff. Scarey eh.

I have been buying a few off Trade me, is there any problem of posting them on here. No problem, just don't try and claim copyright on them. One or two people have made it clear that they don't want there photos reproduced here. As Dave says, respect that. Otherwise go for you life.
