In 2008 we flew with the Red Checkers, and used a civilian Nanchang as a camera ship, something that had never been done before but the results were good so three years later we did it again, just last Friday. These flights are hard work but quite rewarding, I worked up a good plan and with Jim Rankin's help we made it work, special thanks to the team and to those in the RNZAF who made this flight possible. As much as I enjoy flying with the team, photographing the team in this fashion is more important to me as their are more options available if done well and the whole team is able to be photographed. More to follow: The leader rolls for the mirror.

what camera did you use for this mate? I have the cannon 60D but most of my aviation shots never come out as well as these Im always getting glare off the canopy or camera shake!! But as i understand it air to air is hard to shoot......... so maybe it's just me

More brilliant photos there Gavin. Every shot is fantastic. Well done.
The team should commission you to do a Red Checkers calendar that they can sell at airshows, on base and at the Museum, etc.
It's interesting that the wheel hubs look blue in that mirror shot rather than grey, is that due to post-manipulation of the photo or a genuine trick of the light?

92 looks like it's had some paint work on it, it appears blotchy with differing shades of yellow along the fuselage in every photo.

No Dave, it cannot be, it's based at Ohakea not Whenuapai

Yeah, the wind would carry the overspray much further andthen the rain would wash it off at Ohakea. ;D

Yeah, had a look at 92 quite recently and she is very blotchy. I dont think they could have gotten the yellow any further away from what it is even if they tried.

While we are noting details, the serial and tail numbering for '88 is in a different font than the others.
