Introduced a 10yr old friend to flying recently, I think he's hooked! IMG_3115 Flew Rangiora to Rangitata Island IMG_3126Then introduced him to a REAL aeroplane, one with some history! Courtesy of Russell Brodie and Tiger 43 IMG_3135Here's me TRYING (not hard) to catch up :-) IMG_3184And when we did, well...let the picture do the talking! IMG_3257And a very happy, suitably indelibly impressed, convert having flown a plane that trained Spitfire pilots EVEN! Next stop, OMAKA IMG_3281

what 10 year old boy (or man) would not want to fly? I may not be a pilot but I'll take any opportunity to get airborne in anything. I took my 8yo to a couple of airshows and that was it, hooked. Wish I as 10 again.

It was interesting to note the change in his perspective. He's mad on Spitfires and most other WW2 fighters. He had no real interest in the Tiger Moth prior to our visit. When he became aware of 'her' age and historicity, then experienced the flight and took control for a while, he now has a reverence that wasn't there before. Very satisfying! He made a new friend too, Russell's boy Ross, about the same age and MAD on planes. See Aviation News about 11 months ago for an article on Ross. IMG_3217

Do it more. The more kids the better who get introduced to these beautiful birds the better it will be for their future... the birds and the kids! ;D

Just a thought, quite a few here were brought up in the shadow of the great wars and their exploits. Reading about it in comics and books etc. Its neat to see kids get what these aircraft represent, let alone their beauty and the fun of flying. I guess our era of influence is coming to an end in the wake of modern warfare and the aging of the original vets. Still, no kid can resist.

Awesome spot to start, I can just imagine a horde of Urak-hai off to Edoras. Pretty much perfect, eh?

Well you got the spot bang-on there strikemaster. Got photos of Mt Potts and the general area around the upper Rangitata where Edoras and Helms Deep were located. Perfect start, perfect weather, perfect scenery :-)

G'day Baz. Like me, you got nothing better to do with your money or your life?! Turning final for RI. As you know I'm not a Cherokee fan but this one's tidy, goes well, reasonable rates, spider tracks, so all-in-all it fills a need. I'll let you know when I'm going next and you can give me some pointers. Always happy to fill seats.
