Can anyone confirm that W H Collins was the legendary (and late) "Smoking Joe" Collins of helicopter deer recovery fame?
I've just found him involved in two incidents I'd never have expected - Eipper Quicksilver ZK - FFO 31.10.88 and an unregistered Air Command Commander Elite (?) 11. 3 89. Anyone shed any light on his involvement with microlights and gyrocopters?

Yes. W H Collins was the legendary (and late) Smokey Joe of helicopter deer recovery fame. His biography: Injun Joe. The Legend of Smoking Joe Collins, published by Halcyon Press, will be available mid October, 2013. His involvement with microlights and gyro-copters incidents/accidents are all recorded in the book.
