Do they come with aircraft carriers. That will save any moans from residents living around the airports.
Mind you some fish or whale lovers will probably complain.

Excellent news. I really like the look of the C-2. I know nothing about its performance or any stats, only that it looks cool. Just like the P-1.

For what it's worth, this is the official word from the Japanese defence minister: "First, it has been decided that the C-2 transport aircraft belonging to the ASDF's Miho Air Base will conduct overseas flight training for the first time. The training is intended to enhance the aircraft's capability to perform tasks involving overseas flights in the future by increasing its familiarity with overseas airports and the surrounding routes and grasping geographical features. While the details are being coordinated, the first training flight will be made to countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Djibouti between November 8 and 17 and the second flight to New Zealand and other countries between November 25 and December 1. While in the United Arab Emirates, the aircraft will participate in the Dubai Airshow and be displayed on the ground."

A detailed business case prepared by defence officials was due to go to Cabinet before the end of the year and the influence of New Zealand First deputy leader and defence spokesman Ron Mark could be pivotal in the next major acquisition project.

The Navy did send some of it's trainees on a cruise last month for navigation training rather then sending one of their boats so I guess it never really ended in some ways. There is plenty of talk of spending $20 billion but until a government actually does the spending it is only talk. Considering some of Ron Marks comments about NH90's etc my money is now on C130J's

As the outputs are set by the government they can change them as they see fit such as extending response times, reducing flying and sailing hours or even removing an output completely.

The new Defence Minister's thoughts on the last government's Defence capability plans are interesting. Ron Mark - "What Culverden tells us about missing defence priorities" (Nov 2016) Judging from his thoughts above, he wants: - A proper Landing Ship Dock to replace the HMNZS Canterbury - eg: something similar to Singapore's RSS Resolution or Indonesia's LSDs Banda Aceh. - medium and light airlifters capable of short take-off and landing - eg: C27 Spartans - one-for-one replacement for the Hercules - so perhaps something less than an A400M - eg: C130J or KC390 - Getting rid of the 757s altogether "So the Defence Capability Plan is missing true strategic sealift vessels, either Landing Platform Docks or enhanced aviation capable Landing Helicopter Docks. When the big one strikes here or overseas, we need ships capable of acting as a port, as a helicopter base and as a floating hospital. We also need to replace our Hercules on a one-for-one basis but we also need to look at regenerating medium and light airlifters capable of short take-off and landing. Above all we need transport helicopters that can properly operate from a ship at sea."

It will be very interesting to see if, with the change of government , there will any change in the role of the NZDF which will determine the size and type of aircraft that will replace of the C130 Iiisted below are the aircraft that are currently in the melting pot for selection as the replacement of the current transport fleet C130J A400M Kawasaki C2 KC390 C27 B737 A320
