All four rescued ok, the plane however has to wait a little longer.

My mate Gary Morgan in Taree designs and build the Cheetahs out of his facility at Taree Airport. It's Morgan Aeroworks. Lucky escape for all involved.

That would make a boring old fairground ride much more exciting. A more imaginitive scenario than even "Rescue Special Ops" thinks up!
The TV news said the aircraft had just taken off, so how far away from the end of the airstrip was the ferris wheel erected? was it in the flight path danger zone?

According to (reliable) sources Dave the ferris wheel was located some 200m after the airfield and to the left of the RWY alignment. Apparently it was a very late go around. I have been to that strip myself. It is a good strip but let's just say it's one where you want to get your landings and take-offs sorted.
