Was a great day today at Omaka as the Yak 3 fired into life for the first time. The engine was run twice and the testing was flawless, which is a great testiment to the work of JEM aviation. It is always a great experience to see an engine fired up in a restoration project for the first time. It sounded wonderful :-) Arthur still has his Yak 3 in town so we are a bit spoilt at the moment. Utube link.

This has seemingly been a long rebuild so is this rebuilt from a genuine WWII Yak 3 wreck or airframe? Or is it one of the late production new builds done by Yakolev in the 1990's? Or is it from a different source again?
I assume the engine is an Allison?

Here are a couple more video links and some extra photos from today. A bit more power during yesterdays second run. The pair running together. Finally one last photo taken this morning just as the weather was turning from good to not so good.
