One of my work colleagues has asked about the big white pit near the main Air NZ maintenance hangar at Harewood? It's near the fence line close to the entrance to the Mail Centre. I said I'd put the question it up on here as someone is bound to know.

If it's what I think you are referring to, I've always assumed that pit is a hazardous material spill diversion sump/dam?

if I recall, they are able to flood the hangar if there is a fire....I think it is for the water to drain off to
