Greetings, I have a friend who's making a model of the A-4K and has got the special transfers for the anniversary gold one. Can anyone supply me with any pics of it please ? Thanks in advance. Chris

There is an excellent one on Airliners.net
The link is too massive, but simply put RNZAF Skyhawk into the Quick Search and you'll get it.
Also, the April 1987 edition on NZ Wings had it on the cover from memory

Thanks Dave. I checked Airliners.net before but didn't see it, wrong criteria I guess.
It'll be a stunning model once completed. Amazing that you can get specific transfers for this bird !!
Cheers Chris

This is from the www.integration.co.nz website Man, I forgot how good it looked (I remember it at the Whenuapai 50th anniversary Airshow...).

Sadly that particular TA-4K was destroyed in a crash near Perth in 2001. But wouldn't it be smashing if the RNZAF Museum was allowed to take one of the stored TA-4K's from Woodbourne and paint it in this special scheme. I wish that would happen.

Here's one I bet not many people have seen. Also, one important note when modelling this aircraft - it only ever carried 150 gallon drop tanks when in the gold scheme, not the standard 300 or 400 gallon tanks. Compare the size of the tanks in the photo with the size of tanks in photos of aircraft in the later grey/green lizaerd scheme and you'll see what I mean.

Holy cow! Thanks for that photo talon - that's a new one on me.
What's the story there? Was the gold paint applied last? I also note the fin had a change from the G-type to K-type when gold.
Were you in the RNZAF then?

Trial paint scheme. The whole scheme was actually reapplied later. Actually I should mention that a) the scheme is ONLY on the port side and b) the photo isn't mine, so for personal use only please. I was in the airforce in 87, having joined on R3/86. Got to take part in the anniversary parade (yay ) and was also one of the last people to eat in the mess at Wigram before it was closed 7 years later.

On the RNZAF Museum site here www.airforcemuseum.co.nz/main/AircraftDisplay/click on the Canberra link, and a popup shows a photo of the Museum's Canberra flying with the Golden Skooter Skyhawk - I'd love to see other photos from that sortie.

Oh yeah, silly me, you're quite right. Sorry all.
Did the gold Skyhawk do any photo shoots with other aircraft at all?
I have a lovely photo that I bought from the Ohakea photogs in 1990 of an A4K, Strikemaster and Sir Tim Wallis's Spitfire in formation. I was wondering if the Golden Skooter did any shoots similar to this? As it marked 50 years it would have been ideal to fly it with other old aircraft like the Harvard, Mustang, etc.
Did the gold Squawk appear at any airshows in 1987 that were not RNZAF airshows? eg at Ardmore or anywhere?

Only image I have of it with other aircraft - 2 RAAF F/A-18As over Mt Egmont.

Though NZ6256 is not gold in this photo, I think it's a really nice photo, showing four TA-4K's in four different RNZAF schemes. The light grey schemes were ex-RAAF schemes adapted for the RNZAF I guess
