These absolutely brilliant pics were sent to me by Dave Dalziell. Taken by his brother a pilot in the RNZAF. They show NZ2504 and the 42 Sqn flight line. Notes he included: "A bit of History The squadron then was the comms and general purpose squadron, Grumman Avenger (2), a DH Dove (2 ), a Devon ( about 4 or 5 also used for multi-engine conversion) DC 3 (2) and Harvard, ( mostly 2)."Dave has given me permission to post these and I ask members to respect Dave's copyright. If you want copies, pm me and I will ask him. Enjoy

Absolutely fantastic shots. They must be from slides?
I think you'll find the photographer is a longtime member here by the way.

Dave's brother supplied the photograph but the photographer actually , P, R. Adamson. The pilot beside the TBF, Flying Officer Terry Mills, who later flew the last sortie of the aircraft into retirement from Ohakea to Hamilton.

Is that Air Vice Marshal Paul Adamson?
Has he got any other shots I wonder, these are fantastic. I am wondering why no-one else here has commented.

I confirm the Photographer A.V.M. Peter Adamson, but am unsure whether he reached higher rank. Maybe I should ask him whether he has more such in his archives?

Superb colour photos of the Avenger, Devons and Dak. The first one reminded me of the Sunday afternoons at Wigram when we'd have the Air Force Museum's 3 aircraft outside for engine runs.
Baz will be in raptures when he sees these pics. Fantastic, thanks for sharing. Hope there might be more to come?
Cheers.

Thanks for the confirmation Avenger. Please do ask him if he has more, and do invite him to join the forum, unless he's already a member (I know a few high rank Air Staff from the past are members here).
I met AVM Adamson in 1989 at GSTS when I was a lowly Air Force Cadet and he came for an inspection. I think it was the most terrifying point of my entire RNZAF career having seven or eight GSI's watching on just waiting for you to make a mistake as the AVM decided of all the cadets in the group he'd choose to talk with me personally on his walkabout. He asked me where I was from, I said "Cambridge, Sir." He siad, "Ah, nice place. And... are they giving you enough time off here on the course?" I was by this time thinking in my head, "Oh my God, another question!! What do I say??" I then said out load in reply, "I fair amount, Sir." He seemed pleased and moved on.
After the entourage was gone I was accosted by several cadets saying "What the hell did you tell hi we get ots of time off for, he'll be straight in there telling the GSI"s to work us harder!!" Some of them were actually angry. I said, "I didn't say anything of the sort, I said a fair amount. Fair." They thought about it, and then congratulated me on my great diplomacy.
Meeting the AVM was scarier than meeting God when you're an Air Force Cadet and everything you do is wrong in the eyes of a GSI. But I managed to live through it, and I'm sure it was then-Cpl Kavae Tamariki who said to me "Well done".
I met AVM Graham Lintott last year and I was much more relaxed, without an ounce of fear - funny how the perception changes in different environemnts.
Back to Avengers, I'm amazed that Baz hasn't been on those thread earlier. Too busy with his Meccano set I guess?

Meccano set eh? Cheeky bugger. yes an amazing set of photos. Its interesting to see the remains of black paint on NZ2504's prop dome as i thought it was only black in the earlier but nearly identical paint scheme. Man Devon/Dove NZ1802 is shiny isn't she?

Great photos thanks, and very impressive detail for presumably 35mm slides (?).
I have just in the last few days had a quick squizz at several boxes of 35mm slides, going back 30 years or so, and amazingly some of them look like they were taken yesterday, despite dust and neglect. A good chunk of personal history (and the odd interesting aviational pic) amongst all those slides and I have long thought I should digitalise the better ones - the only thing holding me back being whether to buy a decent scanner, or use a professional processing service.
Anyway, the quality of these shots has fired me up to finally do something about it! Thanks again!
