Hey guys, as I'm no longer a seasoned traveller I need to put a couple of questions out there... next year I'll be commuting to Perth for work on a 2/2 basis and from the looks of it the cheapest flights (ANZ or Jstar) involve a wait in Oz for the next flight at Melb/Syd/or Gold Coast, quite often at ungodly hours...So question is - whats the facilities like there for spending a few hours at a time? A guy in my crew says he looks for the "family rooms"and manages to kip down there for a bit etc. I'm not really looking foward to just sitting down on those poxy uncomfortable seats or walking around spending money for 4-6 hours at a time, but on the other hand direct flights can be a fair bit more expensive! Also, whats the attitude of check-in staff to carrying on your own food? Being a perrenial tight-arse I'm loathe to coughing up large for inflight meals, when I could just take a couple of Subways on with me... Does anyone else here commute to work in similar style? Interested to hear from ya. People with their own personal corporate jet need not reply

Jonesy, absolutely nothing wrong with taking your own food onboard. I never look twice when people do that (unless it smells like crap) and let's face it, onboard choice is very limited and often not what you are looking for. Have you got an i-Phone or laptop? If so, alot of the airports have free wifi. That should keep you entertained for a while. Otherwise, a little plane spotting?

with that frequency and distance of commute you should have lounge access via frequent flyer status fairly quick.
In the meantime, look at joining the lounge for your chosen airline, ie Koru club or Qantas Club.
Worth it in the end.
I have qantas club membership and it makes the 2-3 hour wait at the airport every 3 weeks much easier.
