I just built these two back-to-back & put them in appropriate markings. They are the Welsh 1/144 Vac-Form/resin kits. I must say that the welsh models are just about a breeze to put together now that they have major components moulded in resin H

There were always Andovers in this scheme through their service, which was the VIP Scheme. I think from memory there were usually three in that scheme. Others in the fleet were in the 'Euro' scheme, and in the earlier green/green/brown scheme (ie like the Blunties) and for some years two in overall white for UN operations in Somalia, etc., all at the same time. The only time they all wore the same scheme was when we bought them from the RAF and they were in the desert camo white black undersides, but they all got painted into the variations within a few years of entereing RNZAF service. Remember initially they served with No. 42 (VIP) Squadron at Ohakea and No. 1 (Transport) Squadron at Whenuapai till those units were merged.

probably just the bad light, the upper part of the cowls on the HS.748 (above the middle of the leading edge) are actually painted 'aluminium', unlike the Andover

Worked on the VIP conversions and then 12 years on Mt Cooks so have a soft spot for both variants

I love the F27s too. I have never heard of Doyusha. Is the Airfix 1:72 F27 any good?

I love the F27s too. I have never heard of Doyusha. Is the Airfix 1:72 F27 any good? Have never tried one, but I understand it isn't terrible, just old (60's ish). Also it is moulded as an earlier non-radar nose version, so needs modification to do just about any NZ F-27.

The latest re-issue of the Airfix 1/72 Friendship has an optional longer nose included. You still have to deal with the undersized fin etc but there are various articles on the net about this. Still not bad for a kit issued in 1960!
