"Who the hell put that bloody ferris wheel there!?"
"Yes, officer, here's my licence."
"Honestly, officer; Dodgy Bros. Flying School really does exist!"

I read the report and was completely staggered - not only did the pilot hit the Ferris wheel but:
The aircraft departed its home airfield on a reciprocal runway to the one in use by circuit traffic at the time.
The Pilot said he checked the strip data and notams, but couldnt even say what the runway vectors were - he said it was satisfactory just to say "landing from the south"
He landed on the opposite runway to all the other aircraft
he touched down long, tried braking, but then commenced a late go - around
His license was issued by a non-existant operator
The aircraft had several critical defects with construction and was definitely not airworthy (There were 4 holes in the bottom of the control column, as if they couldnt get the hole in the right place so just kept drilling more!)
Big questions need to be asked about the level of supervision in the recreational aircraft (Microlight) sector in Australia......

Reading the incident report I noticed the use of cable ties on the fuel line as well!!!! How can they get away with that sort of quality control? I cant even do that for my car...

I very much doubt that this tool has touched down '20m into the strip, same as the first one' as he claims and very much doubt that it was at 60kts.
I regards to the photos, in figure 2...yes I can see three (3) holes have been drilled. Fourth time lucky in this case. My question is, has that push-rod been bent to connect with the stick? Seems it has.
Electrical wiring near the fuel line...do the math.
Brake line in the fuselage without a grommet or any other means of passing through the fuselage is absolutely pathetic!
Being factory-built it does raise some serious concerns about the build process and the aircafts integrity. I knew the manufacturer personally (having flown from his former base airfield) and I decline to comment on 'issues' in the past. I will say, though, that this incident and pending investigation is likely a blessing.

I too am gobsmacked. It is not just the pilot though, it was not his aircraft... he was just doing the reposition for the owner. Something is seriously wrong with this picture.
I cannot believe the aircraft left the factory with those flaws... it couldn't have.. surely.
So was it a factory built machine ? what about the incredibly poor airmanship... and the various other question marks hanging over this 10 minute flight.
How do people survive these ? Same as the Norfolk incident... the pilot discovered the machine just... stopped. Now how do we get out ?
Good pilots get caught out, invariably it ends in the worst case scenario.. Idiots get to have a beer afterwards......
It may be safer for the industry if we were all to behave like lunatics.
