I'd rate that as another classic Press cock-up.
Pilot's name suppressed but rego not?

Incredibly sad events. From a rural firefighter's perspective these pilots earn huge respect doing monsoon bucket work and observation during big burns. Its always a welcome sight when youre battling the flames to have them flying overhead...

Thanks. I'm relieved it's not my mate that flys that machine but also saddened as he had told me lots about Prickles and what a fantastic pilot and top bloke he was.

I did not know that fire was deliberatlely started by one or more morons. That makes this tradgedy even worse.

There's been other similar activity for some time in that area, so the assumption would be a pretty good one. Hypothetical question would now be...if the fire had in some way caused the accident would the person responsible be on a manslaughter charge?

That should be the case if they can find the little pricks jonesy. The last fire near Hokianga Harbour was a large one too, the smoke was all over the north, you could smell it at Kaitaia airport.

Don't know Jonesy but it makes me unbelievably angry to hear that it was 'possibly' caused by an arsonist(s). It just is not right. Two men will not be going home to their families now because of some potential morons!

Both guys doing a job theyve probably done countless times before. The teams up there will be feeling the pain right now too

Hypothetical question would now be...if the fire had in some way caused the accident would the person responsible be on a manslaughter charge? There was a case not too long ago where a farmer was fined because smoke from a burn off went across the road and caused an accident . So I suppose its possible , but I would think this case would be a lot different . ( and obviously we dont even know the cause yet )

Another example of becoming more USA-stupid!

Driver should have been more careful and driven to the conditions. Another example of becoming more USA-stupid! You shouldnt comment without knowing the facts . I believe the smoke was not immediatly apparent ( obscured by trees , and kept low by wind ) until the driver came around a corner and was faced with almost zero visibility . Anyway , nothing to do with current topic .
