Minor WIP on the painting. Took a goodly part of the day to re-mask stripes, roundels, etc. And the canopy verticals. Had this oddball idea the stripes were 8", in service. Turns out they were 6". That knocked a whole mm off. Started with a base coat of Olive Drab, Humbrol 116, lightened 25% w/ white. Made several passes with light mist coats (over the grey and white primer). Left o/night to set up. Second step, I gradually (the operative word) built up the faded look with heavily-thinned white and base coat, through my 0.2mm tip around 12 lb psi. Used a second mix of yellow and Humbrol 117 (light Olive), heavily thinned, to reduce the stark character of the white. Thirdly, heavily-thinned straight Hu 116 over the cowl and panel lines, and various random patches. Oh, FYI, I add about 30-40% gloss clear to the base coat. It not only aids levelling, to reduce the pebble effect, I can buff it up with a soft toothbrush or paper towel for a satin finish. That means a thinner clear coat later down the track, preserving details like hatches and fasteners. Some obvious touch-up paint is needed though not half as much as the last build! I'm getting betterer. The front canopy surround copped it when I pulled off low-tack tape that'd been on for half the year. Used 'Goo Off' for the residue and it helped lift the OD. Next up, adding differences to the faded patchwork, stains, scuffed and chipped paint, decals and a last clear coat tinted w/ light buff for a slight dusty look. Regards Ross

Looking good there, Ross, although I was expecting to see a Grumman Wildcat and was trying to think of a Kiwi who flew them in the FAA. LOL.
I so want to get back into building but everything else is chewing up the time. Enjoy looking at the progress of others though so keep the pics coming please.

Good stuff. I was also expecting a Wildcat, or a Martlet. Don Nairn was the first kiwi to fly Martlets of course, and he and kiwi Denys Evans flew them in North Africa.
