Well I'm guessing that there wont be bugger all going on in the air this weekend so maybe its time to find out from fellow members that havent gone camping what they're up to for the New Year celebrations... I'll start- Well I have to work tomorrow night but its time and a half and a day in lieu . So spare a thought for fellow fire crews, other emergency service personell and Air traffic control (just to keep with aviation theme!). Actually I dont mind too much cos I'm over the big piss-up scene and had a good Xmas day with the family. So what are you guys up to then?

Early shift for me tomorrow (New Year's Eve), then early shift again on New Year's Day and also on Monday.
However, one thing I WON'T get to see on New Year's Day this year will be drunks crashed out on railway station platforms all down through the Hutt Valley, because all Tranz Metro trains in Wellington are cancelled except for Wairarapa passenger trains (which are only running as far as Petone, then buses from there) due to major trackwork being done on all routes. Freight trains into and out of Wellington are all running via Wairarapa at the moment while major work is carried out inside the Tawa Deviation tunnels on the Kapiti/NIMT line, so our track in Wairarapa is getting hammered.
Most new years, heaps of people go out celebrating in Wellington, then catch a train home and make it as far as the station nearest their home, where they get off the train, then fall over and go to sleep on the platform. Hence the reason why we usually see lots of crashed-out drunks the next morning if we are on early shift. But not this year!

ps.....my sister is really happy with the shitty weather forecast for new year, because she's a police dispatcher in the Wellington Comms Centre, and she reckons crappy weather means less troublemakers getting pissed up and causing meyhem, especially down the eastern side of the North Island which is the part of the country she mostly covers.

At camp (in a lodge)... no cellphone coverage When you work for one of the biggest comms companies in the world, finding somewhere with no phones for 4 days is awesome! I've done my share of 24x7 through Christmas/ NY, I deserve this! Yes - I will still think of those working... Pete

I will be at the Possum and Parrot bar (the bar in my best mate's garage) with my friends, seeing the New Year in the fun way.

I'll be having a few quiets, but working on NY day so no over indulging. I certainly wont be having any of this www.wigrambrewing.co.nz/Menu/Products.php too much coin involved.... (sorry couldn't resist). I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year eve.

Sore heads tomorrow Dave? ;D One can only hope. I managed to squirrel away a few beers not drunk on my birthday and have some Heinekens that my sister gave me to get them out of her fridge (which I hope to swap for something drinkable when I get to Mike's fridge). And no doubt Mike will open a few spirits bottles later on too. Here's to a lazy day tomorrow hopefully. And a bloody long walk home in the rain too I think, doh!

"New Years"? I thought there was only one coming up tomorrow, i.e. 2012! Errol Samoa has opted to skip a whole day and catch up with the rest of the world over New Year, maybe some here hope to skip 2012 all together due to the Mayan proficy rubbish. After all we've had enough disasters in NZ without that hapenning. In fact 13 is unlucky too so let's just skip to 2014! ;D

Just another normal day at the bread factory ensuring all the people of the south island and wellington don't go hungry. but yes, 8 hours normal, 1 1/2 x what ever hours I do, plus a day in lieu plus a special bonus. it's a nice $700 day for me and monday as well so I must spend it wisely she says. If I am lucky I might stay up to see the new year in but most probably fall asleep before then.

Nothing much planned here, might go watch the fireworks display at midnight if the cloud cover clears a bit.

Like many other dairy farmers I will be milking am and pm as I have done for many moons. By the look of the forecast Foxtrot mighty mouse will remain in its hangar, there is a few hours flying credits waiting for decent weather.

Finally defeated Avoidaphone and managed to get this years version of their mobile broadband to actually work.
Saw lots of avian activity yesterday - Gannets at Cape Kidnappers. Today, New Years Day, a very wet camp ground at Havelock North with several of last night's revelers holding very sore heads.
The rain is still not going to stop, so off to a slap-up lunch at a posh place.

Happy New Year everyone, spent the new year with chips and dip followed by some bubbly all while watching Apollo 13 for about the 4th time! (Still enjoyed it though!) Then had to go into work this morning because the last machine still working had a broken tool alarm at 00:13am! Must have hit the booze to hard ha ha. ;D

In spite of recent seismic activity, Christchurch was the place to be, weather-wise!!! Nice bubbly and chippies to see the New Year in. Undoubtedly it can only get better than last year, for obvious reasons, here in the Garden City. We can rebuild her, we have the technology :-)

I had a real quiet night ( quietest in living memory ) ! Had to stay sober to go pick up my 14yo daughter from her part time job . She didnt finish till 11.45 ! ( at least I did see in the new year ) . Oh well , might have to have a few drinks tonight instead , although the lack of a hangover today did make for a pleasant morning at the RC field .
