I have just found this great site - my question is does anyone remember my father named above. He trained as far as I know ar Wereroa, Levin (1941?) and possibly Wigram as a pilot. He went over to Canada and finished up flying in Lancasters as a Navigator .

NZ424068 Ronald Leslie Shearman enlisted at Levin on 30 May 1942. Prior to this he had served with the Air Training Corps. He embarked for Canada on the Nieuw Amsterdam on 3 Oct 1943. You should be able to find out more about him by requesting a photocopy of the papers that survive on his RNZAF service record as held by Personal Archives, New Zealand Defence Force. More information on this may be found at www.nzdf.mil.nz/personnel-records/nzdf-archives/Errol

Thanks for your responses. Dad was posted to England in the 101 Squadron, he tells me he was known as Tiny Shearman and thinks the only remaining member of his aircrew is Rear Gunner Keith Ivey. They still keep in touch although I'm not sure how often these days. I have asked him to attend the airshow at Ohakea on the 31st Mar with us, he has agreed but this will take some organisation!
