Hi all,
During 44-45 my Father was stationed at Emirau in the RNZAF with 5SU. I have a reasonably large collection of his photos from there, but it's always bugged me as to the actual location of their camp & also where the revetments were? A number of photos show the camp & environs, others show the Corsair revetments, while still more are general island shots, but I've spent ages examining Google Earth and still have no idea where they would have been. If only I had asked him to look at GE before he died in 2005!! Can anyone give me a rough idea where the RNZAF camp was?
Thanks, Tony ;D

I think there were two seperate RNZAF camps on Emirau. One was called Camp Rangitane, a nod to the survivors of the NZ vessel Rangitane who were dumped there after being captured by the German Navy raider. I don't know what the other one was called but a veteran only recently told me there were two camps. He was with the bomber servicing unit and was based at Camp Rangitane. Perhaps the other one was for the fighter boys.

I just went through my stack of wartime RNZAF maps that had belonged to Corsair pilots but have none that cover Emirau I'm afraid.
